I know that lots of people bought Vilas furniture in the past but I never seen it referred to specifically in H&H. My hushand has dining & living room furniture (also master bedroom) & doesn't want to part with it. It is almost all in excellent condition.
We are in the process of having a small home built for our retirement so our budget is conservative. The house has an open kitchen, living room, and dining room plan. Other than white, what colour & style would you suggest for the kitchen cabinets. All my walls will be white (maybe Benjiman Moore Cloud White) as I have lots of vibrant art and pottery to decorate with. I want to use a neutral carpet (ideas). My sofa, drapes, & chairs are blue.
I have some old fashioned glass door knobs that I am considering installing on the doors if this would be ok in a newer style home. If so, I was thinking of glass knobs on the kitchen cabinets.
If anyone has any advice on decorating with Vilas furniture, fixing the slightly worn pieces, its value, or anything else that I should know, thanks for the help.

Hi Jan:
I also have some vilas furniture mixed with Gibbard. I am not sure if you have the lighter Vilas or darker cherry version. I have the cherry version so I did my cabinets in a cream colour to create contrast and brightness in my kitchen. I will never part with my furniture either but I have added some modern decor, ie lamps and wall plaques to update the look. If you have the lighter Vilas you can match your cabinets to it. For just a little extra the cabinet maker will customize your stain. Put in a counter top that is bold and has a touch of blue in it to add interest.
The glass knobs will always add a bit of sparkle to your home and also add a nice chandelier. Try to incorporate other glass pieces. Choose carpet in a neutral with more on the golden side than with a pinky tone. Carpets with texture and pattern might be nice. You can compare at the carpet store. There are lots of people who re-finish Vilas furniture but it can be expensive. Look on Kijiji or ask the previous owners of Gibbard furniture. I think they still have a website.
