That's just fine with me. I guess I'm not that lost afterall.
On the left topic column, you do need to click "Click here to check for new messages" (just under the Forum title) to get an update.
We did have it as an automated refresh before, but it introduced a bunch of other annoyances that I'm sure you would have hated.
So we opted for this as being less .... er ... annoying.
