Hi there! It's my first time posting here.
We rent a 1950s house with an odd fireplace mantle area. Because my husband wants the TV on the mantle, everything is oddly out of whack. As well, the area above the mantle is angled, so hanging pictures, especially larger ones, doesn't look good. I don't know how to balance the TV on the left side and create a focal point in the middle. Thinking some kind of huge dark vase on the right side or a large print. Since we rent, we can't really do any major renos, though I wouldn't be opposed to something minor. Bottom picture is how we have it now. SO BLECH! Would like to replace all the asian themed stuff with contemporary.
Help!!! Creative ideas anyone????
p.s. disregard baby gate on left and baby toys on right. :-)

It sounds like you're on the right track. I'd probably consider leaning some art on the side opposite the TV to balance things out. If you have a little one you can anchor them to the wall at the top. Ikea sells anchors like that which would work
