Ikea has a really neat faux aquarium in the kids' rooms section, which looks like a 36" circular cut-out in a wall with round plexiglass attached to each side with screws. Inside is a bed of marble rocks, a few little fake greenery items, and lots of tiny stuffed fish and sealife creatures. I bought a few of the small stuffies for my son, and got to thinking it would be fun to make a small play aquarium for his room.
I've scrapped a lot of nicer looking aquarium ideas I had because they are glass. I know he's going to enjoy playing with this when it's set up, so I decided an acrylic or clear plastic 'aquarium' would be best. After doing a bit of surfing on the internet I discovered there are a variety of acrylic or plexiglass cage items for reptiles and such, so I'm going to go with something like that. One I found is tote-like, with a handle. We'll visit a couple of pet stores today and see what we come up with. I have a feeling Spongebob will take up residence in there once it's done. I'll post a picture when we're finished.
