We are in the process of purchasing a new home.
The living room, hall and bedrooms all have blue carpet, which needs to go. We would love to do laminate, but the house has an open stairway to the basement, with an Oak railing around it as Oak cabinets in the open concept kitchen.
We dont know if we need to match this color or if we could go with a Dark laminate?
We are going to be taking out the small piece of railing between the kitchen and living room. We are also either going to redo the kitchen flooring with laminate tile, or the same laminate that we use in the rest of the house

I would not match the cabinets at all. Go darker. I think it will be too much of the same colour tone of wood - plus if it does not match exactly, then it will look like you tried to match the colour and failed.
