What do I do when I am done?

HHassist's picture

Does anyone else "need" to have a decorating project all the time?

My painter will be done soon. I have ordered a new print, which will have to be framed and I need a new area rug for at my front door.

Already, though, I am thinking "what next"? I have expensive projects in mind, which will have to wait until I can afford them (new flooring, new kitchen cabinets, new dining room furniture), but I am out of room for more wall art or objets d'art and every room but my dining room is well furnished. The thought that goes through my mind is "what will I shop for?"

Does anyone else suffer from this?

One sister let me make many of her decorating decisions (gotta love her for that) and I did a lot of shopping for my dad (that was fun, he has a bigger budget than I). But now, both my sister's and my dad's homes are "done".

"I was thinking..." is pretty gentle. I like to start those sentences with "We need to..."

I feel kind of foolish - it is good to know I am not alone. Somehow, I suspected as much, having been on this forum for over a month.

First, you have to admit that you are powerless over decorating....

Spring would help. The garden is a big distraction. Anyone want to send some heat out here!

I'm lucky - I have a new house with a ton of projects still before me, so I'm pretty happy.

But in my last home which was a condo, I'd run out of projects and for me it was like running out of oxygen! ;)

I am like this too. Never a day goes by without thinking about decorating. I always have some project on the go. I also have a quater of our garage full of "projects" I have acquired from garage sales or from other people's garbage.

My little girl now even says she is "decorating" when she plays and moves things around in her little kitchen playhouse. She hears this word way too much I guess.

Everyone has to have a hobby and decorating is mine. It really makes me happy.

I often think OMG, when I have everything where I want it- then what?? But, then I realize that by the time budget allows ALL the things I want to buy & do styles & colours will have changed again & I can start all over....I find this works to console me -hehe.;)
