What to do with my radiators?

SaraW's picture

My husband and I are doing all kinds of work top to bottom on our house - but we have one last thing that is just killing the look that we are going for...Our rusty old radiators are just soooo damn ugly!!  We try to paint them, but the paint just chips off or looks like it will chip off soon enough ...  I can't bear the thought of painting them thoroughly enough to make them look good - cleaning them is a huge pain!!Any suggestions?

Fichman makes nice covers, however you have to put them together yourself, do all the measuring etc. Try www.handymanhomeservices.ca . He comes & measures and installs them

For such a specific niche - Toronto is a small place, so we bought our radiator covers from that very same fichman that you are asking about ;-)Honestly - we love them.  Our neighbours and friends all comment on them - especially the ones that have radiators lol!The instructions are super easy to follow for measuring - really - it's just a hollow box that fits over an object.  Assembly is a snap, and they have a youtube video for the assembly that they email you when you get your covers - if i recall correctly the videos are on their site and easy to find by poking around.  It may have taken me all of 5 minutes to put each cover together.

wow those are beautiful - did some some googling and found a nice local company that makes rad covers.  does anyone have experience with fichman furniture radiator covers?they're so nice - but i'm hesitant to measure myself ... where is that brown radiator cover from?

Definitely box it in with a screen. (You can even fake out a second box to create symmetry if there's only one radiator in an awkward spot.) Here are a few inspiration shots:

I agree ... I was watching an episode of a morning show and there was a local company that makes some really beautiful ones - or just google it, there are lots of options out there. They're really simple looking to make.  We tried to make a couple, but just ended up buying them lol.  We're really happy with them - you'll wonder how you lived so long without rad covers.
