What kind of light..

do you have in your breakfast nook?

I have the awful looking builder's fixture which Icall, the saucer!

I don't know what to get. What size, what style?

I'd love to see pictures and hear suggestions.

This is what the fixture looks like, I've since painted the kitchen but this will give you an idea.

That is a beautiful fixture...a little bit over my budget...I wish I could just splurge, but that's a little too much..
The websites were great, I found lot of inspiraton pics, I think the best will be to actually go and see them...

How big should the fixture be for the size of my table? And what height should it be?

We purchased a big plain white shade from Wal-Mart ($10 I think), and purchased a fixed hanging light-kit from Canadian Tire, and made our own. I don't have a good picture of it, but it is a regular large lamp shade, with a regular bulb inside. Not fancy, but it suits our nook just fine! We are quite proud of it!

did the websites posted give you any ideas? I have a ceiling fan over my kitchen table, so I can't post an "inspiration" pic. I was thinking that a simple 3 or 5 arm black wrought iron chandelier, with shades that compliment the rest of your kitchen's decor would be nice above your table.

which might fit with what some are suggesting? It's pretty dreamy and expensive but I think it may work?! I read that someone suggested drum and this is from Universal Lighting. 500.00 but I'm sure it can be found for cheaper!

Obella: YES I get the glare!!! How annoying is that?!? I was wondering what kind of light to get that would'nt do that. I have seen those lightbulbs at restaurants, I never thought they'd be so difficult to find

janetc: my painting is going very well, I'm done all the color in the kitchen and hallway and entrance. Now I'm working on the trim and doors, I got Cloud White as per everyone's suggestion. So far, I really like it!! I will post pics soon.

So, what kind of pendant fixture would be best? something like a chandlier? or just something that has 1 light? I don't know.

Does anyone have any websites with lighting options?

be careful of the coloring of the shades, our shades are off white and we find the light not bright enough....by the way how is the painting and decor going....boob lights, that is too funny, never heard of that before lol

OMG, jenjen!!!! That's, like, a triple-Z cup or something!!!!! OK, you win for biggest nipple light EVER!!!!!

Claudia's maman, don't go with one of those!!!!! Although I would suggest a fixture that doesn't have lights glaring down at you.

a drum shade. They have a diffuser at the bottom to eliminate the glare and a drum would be in keeping with the style of your kitchen. Light and airy. I love the valences you made for your windows.

I too like a pendant light over a table..

Do you find that there is glare while sitting?

The reason I asked is we had that problem. then we noticed while sitting in a restaurant that the bulbs in their pendant fixtures had a silver coating on the bottom...
we couldn't find them in a reg. store, but was directed to a wholesaler.....they are more expensive, not by much though...they really make a difference.

We have a starlight in our kitchen eating area. I love it :)

But I hear you -- it's SO hard to find nice lighting at a reasonable price. A lot of people here have found nice light fixtures at Canadian Tire -- have you checked there?? Also, Home Depot seems to be coming out with some interesting fixtures.

Just be happy you have a saucer light and not a nipple light -- those ones are the worst!!
