What is one of your decorating pet peeves?

Mine is those matchy bathrooms... You know the ones where it is all rubber duckies or matching the drapes with cup holders and towels.. Ohhhh that bothers me...

What is yours?

Ugh, I hate lights with "nipples" too. I thought I was the only one who noticed them!

I hate that every store we go into, it's rare for us to find one thing that we like!
I hate that everything that we fall in love with (wooden shutter window treatments, solid wood furniture from Woodcraft, everything from Pottery Barn, bronze basin vessel sink) is over our price range!
I hate that hubby and I are so darn picky, have expensive taste and a limited budget! ;)

My pet peeves are:
Beige- YUCK especially when in a matchy matchy room

anything that remotely resembles brass or gold- I HATE it, even my rings are platinum

cream melamine cupboards with oak trim- have them, hate them, can't wait to change them.

"Must have" trends- I'm anti keepin' up with the Jones', I'll only do/get something if I really like it, not because I'm told I should

my absolute BIGGEST pet peeve
HAVING SO MANY GREAT PLANS AND NO MONEY TO EXECUTE THEM!!!

Oh my gosh Ivorygirl. I am so relieved I am not the only one who checks out the MLS. I even check them out in other provinces and even the US. how pathetic. Most places (unless they are selling showhomes) are pretty lame. Especially as you say the ones that say "decorators colours". FIRE THE DECORATOR. :D

Many are repeats, but here goes:

-Wallpaper borders

-Sponge paint borders

-My 1960's wrought iron front porch railings (previous owners ripped down the original Mission style wood railings -boo hoo). But hey, they hide my icicle lights -haha

-Art too high

-Matching bedroom sets (the ones with the mirror propped up on the dresser, sorry, it just screams Leon's)

-Knick-nacks. Ugh. Especially "Precious Moments" ones. Eek!

-Valances, or worse: swags

-Area rugs that are so small they look like bath mats

-I have a white banister with blue spindles in my house. Shudder,,,

-Painted tiles

-Last but not least: the MAN-CHAIR! My dh is dying for one of those puffy recliners, and I won't have it!! I keep telling him that Frasier's dad's chair wasn't just a joke because of the duct tape. It's simply fugly!

oh, I almost forgot

I often check out pictures on the mls listings to see how other people decorate their homes, specifically homes that are in the million dollar range.

More often than not I'll find homes that are stunning on the outside but the inside decor hasn't been touched since 1980. The worst part is that on the listing they still call it "designer interior"...get real!

don't feel like they are a home. You kow the places, not a thing out of place -- no toys, no magazines, no mail, no family pictures - you wonder if people actual live there.

My other pet peeves:

Plastic still on the lamp shades
Valance curtains
Wallpaper borders
Balloon curtains
Drapes that are too short
Pictures/Art hung too high
Poor lighting or no lighting
Anything with ducks, geese, cats, dogs, frogs or any other cutsy animal
"Collectable" dust catchers, oops, I mean ornaments
Stuffed animals (if you hae kids it's understandable)
Generic Art (you know the scenic type from Walmart, Zellers, etc.)

Christmas pet peeves:

Icicle lights (they look especially bad in the summer)
Lite figures (animated deer0
Blow up figures (do you want Homer Simpson in a Santa suit on your lawn)
Tinsel
Tinsel garlands of any type, especially when people drape them on their ceilings and in their windows

A huge one for me is when on decorating shows someone splotches some paint on a piece of paper, slaps a frame on it and calls it art. Yuck!

Unless it was my 5 year-old doing the splotching then I find this so called "art" very impersonal.

But I still like it!

My pet peeves are the same as Redheron's and Jem's and I will add those nasty people who close their living room drapes so I can't peer in and see their rooms while I am walking the dogs.

there are many... definatley matching sets of furniture especially dining room suites. it screams SALE!
also, pictures that are too small and too high on a wall. oh and chandeliers that are too high over the dining room table with 100w bulbs in the sockets so it feels like you're eating dinner under detainment... and speaking of lights...i really hate those hanging icicle lights that everyone seems to love, they look so messy during the day. same goes for the icicle netting on trees. for pete's sake they are bad enough during the season but in mid July they are sooo ridulous! take them DOWN! please. okay, while ranting on xmas decor why do people's front lawns turn into scenes from the Griswalds Xmas movie? i mean is it really neccessary to have every inflatable santa and snowman and fake reindeer there is?? or those nativity scenes with hay and all! c'mon!
i should stop now as i've for sure offended some already. JMHO!

I hate themed shower curtains and shower curtains in general, themed ceramic tiles, the colour peach, matching furniture sets, matching bedroom sets, WALLPAPER BOARDERS, underscaled light fixtures etc. hahaha I could go on...........but I won't

let me see..........i think what annoys me is when people decorate more to impress others, yes im house proud too and do want our home to look nice....i do like the opinions of others but it still boils down to what i can live with..........when i decorate i like to keep hubby and the kids in mind, it cant always be about looks............i have a friend who is so anal that her kids cant even decorate the tree
