What are our options for basement lighting, concentrating in the rec room for now? We are considering recessed, but I am worried about the amount of heat given off by halogens. Is there such thing as recessed fixtures for fluorescent bulbs? I understand they don't get as hot?
We know that we will use a pendant over the pool table. In addition, we have plans for
- accent lighting over a cue case
- lighting for dart board area
- 2 bar counters (one is linear, 7.5 ft long; one is a quarter round table in a corner)
- general lighting in games area
- general lighting in gym area ... again, worried about heat

Ditto for halogen......................................I bought the directional lighting kind.......I originally was going to install halogen pot lights but I was really worried about the fire hazard...I know they are deemed safe but I still felt that halogen gets hot and when they are tucked into the ceiling ...there must be some risk.....so me the wimp....just bought from HD some brushed finished halogens and then I directed them to bounce of the walls...and my sofa table... etc.....it makes the room look crisp and clean.............................good luck
I have halogen in my basement. The bulb is hot but the can stays cool. Haven't noticed that it radiates alot of heat throughout the room. I am very happy I went with halogen....nice true light.
