What was Gordon using??

I just caught the tail end of a segment of the show and Gordon was using some kind of mixture and painting it onto photos. Breathing on the stuff made it turn clear, and looked like glass. What is this stuff and where can one find it? Looked amazing. Hope someone knows!

Hi,

I saw the show back in December and thought it would be a nice idea. I went to their website and copied and pasted the materials needed for this craft (posted below). But now that I am ready to make it, I have no idea how! The instructions are so vague! Any help would be much appreciated!!!

Original photography blown up at a copy store, mounted on a wood frame and coated in resin makes a dramatic alternative to the black and white standard.

• Envirotex (glass-like coating on photos) — Gwartzman's, Toronto, (416) 922-5429

• Oil paints and urethane (colour wash on photos) — art supply store

Frustation caused me to keep looking, and VOILA!!! I found a site that seems to fill my order it is www.pioneerthinking.com/nc funcraft.html
Circa 1850 NU-Lustre-55 is the name of the product, and a further search listed where it is available,Color your World was on the list. Hope this info helps...Bobbie

I can't seem to get this site to work. Do you need to breathe on it in order for it to work because that was the "weird" part of the whole process!!

So was this project basically a thick clear coating poured over a photo (I assume glued to a tray or board or something solid?

If the Circa 1850 NU-Lustre-55 is what you are talking about, there are several brands of 2 part epoxy resin (you are looking for 'resin' or you could end up with glue) you can get. I can't remember the name of the one I used, but it comes in a royal blue box, in various sizes, in craft stores (generally people use it for decoupage coating or making water features in miniatures/train scenes) and in places like Home Depot where the paints/varnishes are as people use it to coat tables or counters.

Seems to me it's also one of those products you want to use when you can keep the windows open.

edit: I remembered the name of the one I've used and know is sold in a lot of places. It's called Envirotex and here is some info http://www.sculpt.com/catalog_98/CoatingMaterials/Envirotex.htm

I watched it twice that day just to find out what Gordon was using but still couldn't get a clear idea of it. I'm not very crafty but would love to attempt this project. If someone has step-by-step instructions PLEEEASE reply.

I asked this same question back in February of this year but it appears that few people watched that episode. It is obviously on replay mode as many of them are but I have asked around in many different stores and nobody seems familiar with this technique or "material". In the episode I watched he was using a photo of Linda's dog.
