Bad news is that we are zone 3 or 4 (at best) and I do not think that a Japanese Maple will survive here. I suggest you rush out and buy all the books by our beloved Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Lois Hole. Lois is one of the owners of the wonderful Hole's Greenhouses and she has books on perennials, trees & shrubs and bedding plants (amoung others). Her books are everywhere - Safeway, Canadian Tire, Superstore. Since she gardens in our zone, she is a good source of advice, and, conveniently, Hole's always has all of her recommended varieties.
