[B]It can be made with chicken or lamb cut up in cubes...
Ingredients:
-Chicken drumsticks, 4 pieces
OR 300grams lamb cut in small pieces
-1c. sugar
-1 medium size onion, chopped
-100 grams, almonds, blanced, browned and slivered
-2T sesame seeds, toasted
-100 grams prunes
-100 grams apricots
-50 grams raisins
salt
pepper
ground ginger, 1-2 tsp
ground cinnamon 1-2 tsp
2 cloves
-Soak prunes, abricots, and raisins in hot water for one hour.
-Meanwhile, blanch and toast almonds and toast sesame seeds.
-Season meat with salt and pepper and cook with onion in 2 tsp olive oil. Put a little water, just to cover and let cook over medium heat covered, about 30 minutes.
In a seperate bowl, add sugar, with a little bit of water and stir to a paste. Add to meat and cook through another 30 minutes. Add cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. Take the prunes out of their water as well as raisins and apricots. Add to pot. Let cook a few minutes, before adding almonds and sesame seeds. Thicken the sauce slightly, and when it is to your desired level and consistency, take pot off heat, and leave covered so sauce continues to thicken slightly.
What is important in this recipe is to not add to much water at the beginning, so that you have a sauce and not a soup! This dish is called Markit Haloua or Meat in Prune Sauce
