Talk about being disappointed...For most of this past year, I've been "eyeing" a dining set in Sears. I really want a round table with good chairs and I thought this Sears set was "it".
Well, I have to tell you that after seeing the same set for sale on Kijiji for $725 and still available when I called to make an appointment to see it, I've never been so disappointed. We had to travel about 30 minutes to see the set and I didn't mind the trip thinking that the table was quality but...
Luckily, I saw how the table really holds up -- and it is not good. There were surface chips revealing a white underlayer. There was even cracking in the veneer at the bottom. I've never seen anything like it.
I thought that for the regular retail price there would be some integrity in this product. Wow, I was so wrong. And this set was supposed in "new" condition.
Needless to say, we didn't buy it, although the chairs were terrific.
So, now I really get that whole "If it is too good to be true..." idea. I'll be saving up for a few years to buy a truly good quality dining set. If anyone knows of some great places in the Ottawa area, I'm all ears. :)

I wouldn't do pine. It looks nice but I find it very soft. It dents & nicks very easily.
Wow! Thanks for the references! I'll keep them on hand.:)
The Old Oak Tree in Carleton Place sells solid wood furniture.
That's the one where the guy is dancing on the table top to show how sturdy it is.
