I feel for those of you with thermafoil cabinets, as mine are the same with the bubbling and almost like the plastic shrinks around the edges if there is any heat around them. For any professionals out there, is there anything we can do about this product that is clearly not a good one?
that is what is so frustrating about the yellowing!! And it would be not so bad, except that the one drawer front and the valance underneath that covers the undercounter lights (that they did NOT want to install for me!) are still gloriously WHITE!!! Oh, well, some day I am just going to get them all replaced - by someone who will stand by their work after the fact! I hate builders, and builders' subs!
Thanks..... it's good to know for next time I clean the cupboards. I
I feel your pain:) it was I that started that thread because mine are bubbling up. And it was northerngirl who responded as the kitchen designer. Mine however have not yellow'd but truly I don't know what's worse...:( I was always told not to use Fantastic on anything made of white vinyl because it actually contributes to the yellowing. I just use orange clean, & they seem to be holding up ok as far as whiteness.....
I hadn't thought of that one..... Will defintely try!!!
try lemon juice as you are trying to fade out the yellow not clean it.
Magic Eraser.... cleans very well but does not whiten
So far Fantastik with bleach or my own super-strong solution still works the best for whitening..... and I've only got 1 bleach spot on myself so far!!!! LOL
is what the thermal ones are. They started yellowing almost as soon as they were put in. For some reason, it was more noticeable at my neighbours' and they have had no joy with Canac, the builder or the new home insurance people.
Somewhere on this forum, some time ago, someone (can't remember who) who was familiar with kitchens and builders and all, said they thought it was a shame the thermal ones would ever be recommended for kitchens becasue this is a problem with them.
We also found that there is a small melted *drip* at the corner of one set of doors, over where we used to have our toaster -- it would appear they got melted by the heat from the toaster! :-(
we once had lacquered white cabinets and I know what u mean...parts like the range hood piece were made of a coated material...after a few years it yellowed too and there was nothing I could do to make it white again...kstyle...would that eraser stuff work to take a few food spots off my latex painted wall?? Hate to touch it up cause its faded.
I would ask the store where you bought them or a store that sells them like Home Depot. I find it strange that they are yellowing myself. How long have you had them? Really too bad.
Alas, we have the thermal coated ones (I forget what it's called) on our kitchen. Most of them are yellowed, different colour from the carcass of the cabinet and the rials and whatnot on the fronts. And the one large drawer is still white, as it should be!! boohoo! any ideas???
I don't know why the cupboards look yellowed.... (the rest of my family thinks I'm NUTS!) LOL
I will definitely try some of the suggestions made so far. I don't want to get into painting them at this point.
I never fry. I have a good downdraft stove so no range hood.
I used to have light beige melamine and used VIM, the real stuff not the imitations. Also Fantastic may work. Why do they yellow so fast? do you havea range hood to take the cooking stuff out?
There is a paint now that does not yellow but you would have to make sure there was no residue and prime before painting them. There are many members on D&D who have painted theirs and have all the info.
have you tried the mr clean magic eraser? I use it on everything :)
that they are melamine but I'm not sure. The bleach solution works fine at whitening but I have to make it pretty strong & I always end up with bleach stains on something other than the cupboards...LOL
wood , fibreboard or melamine ?
That may determine what you use.
