Who do I call????

So, I was just coming home from a friend's house....driving down a street that's currently undergoing some major construction (lane closures, torn up pavement..etc) and I'm taking my time cause I've never driven this street at night. Anyway...I can see a yellow/orange light flashing and slow down because I'm not sure what it is....well, the light gets closer to me and suddenly..as I'm about 10 feet away from it, I realize its a piece of heavy equipment...in my lane..moving towards me!!! The machine had no lights on the front of it...only the flashing yellow light on top. Long story short...I'm fine, no harm done...but what the hell was a piece of heavy equipment doing moving towards oncoming traffic at 11:00 at night...with no flagsperson??? And...who do I call to complain about it???

Well, I just spoke to somebody in the "Fleet Safety" department...and the complaint has been filed...and the investigation will begin right away. (Or so she assures me) Since I wasn't injured and there was no harm done, I told her that I just wanted to make sure that this kind of thing doesn't happen again.

Yeah, I tried calling the city. They have a 24 hour line....and the chick that answered the phone had NO IDEA where to direct my call! She suggested I find ut which company is doing the work there and complain directly to them. I'm gonna call By-Law this morning and see if they have any better guidance for me.

Funny thing is...there was no other construction going on last night....NOTHING!!

Call the non emergency number for the police. They can check it out right away. Otherwise, I'd call the main city number (here in Calgary it's 311, not sure if that is a universal type thing or not) and they can take the complaint or have you talk to whatever dept. takes care of their crews or whatever.

It's pretty startling to run into things you don't expect at night. My nephew hit one of those deep cuts in the road (the type when they are replacing the corners or sidewalks) that had no markings, baracades, or light. Very bad. The weirdest I had was driving around about 3 am and coming face to face with a plane being hauled down a 6 lane street here. That was weird indeed. I couldn't figure out what it was until I was really close and basically had to drive under the wings to get by.
