i love the gold on my walls, the red on the window looks great and everyone that comes here, comments on how nice the red panels look.........and i do like red and i also think the red looks good with whats going on in my room  i ordered two different patterned curtains in red to see which ones i like, they wont be in until tuesday..........so no clue at this time. However, this is my question, why do i keep drawing back and finding myself attracted to soft tones in my living room, like cream for example. Is it because the room is small or i just spend too much time in there :hairpull: i drive myself crazy trying to get things the way i think looks good, but perhaps that is my problem...okay so now i have confused everyone.........must be the weekend i have had.........teenagers driving me batty  i like this picture and this seems to be what im drawn too, see the soft curtains on the window

Janet - I love the colour of your walls - really warm and soothing.
Good luck in finding the right curtain panels for your windows, but in the end you may be better off finding the material in fabricland or some such store and sewing the panels yourself.
Here in Vancouver we have some wonderful fabric stores in Little India -
yummy range of colours in fabrics and so inexpensive!
Go with your instincts on this one and by God, have some fun with it all!
Oops!!!! :biglol:
I'm telling you, I can NEVER type a typo-free message, even if it's 3 words long!!! Stupid FFS!!!!
Well, the L and the M are sort of close to each other on the keyboard..... or maybe I just have strange sub-conscious thoughts happening..... :D
Your mock-ups are pretty good too, itsjustme ;)
Yeah, it was hard to get to the computer with those handcuffs still on ;)
lock-ups!![/QUOTE]
Ok Smoodgie..is there something you need to share with us?? :biglol:  :biglol:
janet, definitely go with what YOU like!! I love the red accents, but I think cream works well with your wall colour and furniture too. And it'll definitely give you the calm, more serene look and feel that you want. You could always toss in some red accents in the winter, to warm things up a bit when it's cold outside :)
itsjustme, you do such great lock-ups!!
going to check her curtains, i do remember her having some nice ones but at the time i was looking for red and of course seen many nice cream ones....so hopefully i will have some luck......i do want cream with a pattern, not too heavy and even a little gold in the cream would be nice........i will check out the site and see what is available.........oh my you should see the ones we have on the window now...........talk about doilies

oh yea they were all tabs...so i guess they're out...did you check out CT for the Debbie Travis line...they have them online too
i thought you bought the striped panels........ i went to walmart to check the ones like you had at home because i thought they had them in the cream striped but i store didnt....they had some that were more on the greenish side, but we have another walmart 15mins away so im going to check them, they always seem to stock more items. The ones you seen were they tabs or rod pocket, our walmart only had the one color left and they were tabs and i prefer rod pocket

janet...Walmart had a cream version of those red ones that i had bought and still so want for my kitchen...have i told you that before? :D ...but check them out..it's kinda 2 tone cream panels...if that's what you're looking for....but also i found that Debbie Travis has some nice panels...inexpensive too...but you defiently gotta go with what you're comfortable with...if cream is what you lean towards...then cream it is
guys....im now on the hunt for cream panels...which are normally available around here, so hopefully it wont be too much of a chore
pearl..........what you described is very much my style...good thing DH can live with some softness, although i think he just prefers me QUIET....
oreokitty, i wont overdue it...i really dont have the space too or that would overwhelm me too............just new panels and throw
bigmama, i would love an area rug, but just cant seem to make it work with our furniture arrangement...when i have placed one in front of the sofa it seems to chop the room in half...so i sort of gave up on that for now :D
i can picture the panels in my head, just not sure they exist

I think it looks great the way it is. I say STOP or you will over do the room. I have the same problem I just don't know when to be happy till I drive myself insane. But I honstly think your room looks great as is.
Janet go with your gut and what YOU like. Everyone loves a different feeling. I love too many that is my problem :biglol:
I love the cream in your room and it would look lovely and calming with cream drapes and what about a cream rug it would really be calming in your room as well ( Hopefully DH will be an extra sweetie and do your panelling ;) )
Decorate your room for YOU as the world would be pretty boring if we all loved the same thing :)
I much prefer the cream myself. I too gravitate to pale colours, my walls are a dark cream and the drapes a cream-beigy. No matter what I think I might like the pastels always win in the end.
I do have darker colous in accessories that are inexpensive to buy and so you can change them around. Look in your closet and I bet you find the colours you really like in the clothes you have chosen to buy. I know that is the case with me very often. I find water relaxing and tend to choose colours from a that, like an ocean and sand etc. I like pretty as well so throw that all together and that is my style LOL
so much itsjustme....i feel better just looking at your mock up....i have realized that i was using a color that looked good but not one i can handle alot of in my small room....instead of going for what i like and can live with.....i took the red throw out and threw this old cream blanket there, its not one i will be using but its the idea....and of course i dont mind shopping, i like the gold and cream accents and a small hit of red is fine, like in a picture or candle  thank you all ......im open to any ideas on creams with pattern, such as throws or curtain panels..........if anyone has cream panels and would like to share.

janetc...
I prefer cream.......but I am miss neutral and those colors make me calm and happier......I love red...but I am not that bold in my decorating....must be my boring personality.......LOL.....but seriously....go with your gut.....that always works...........then you never second guess yourself....good luck........ :D
Here is the cream, see if you like it.
You don't have to go with red if you would prefer cream. It is the red throw in your room that is calling for more red, like the chair cover.
So remove the red throw, and add some cream instead. Try cream curtains and a cream throw. If your heart is screaming for calm and serene, then red is not the right choice :D
I believe we all gravitate to something for one reason or another. I've said it many times, I hate beige, and I truly do. I was also convinced to use it in my last house and it went with everything, the place was absolutely coordinated and got lots of compliments and I never warmed up to it. It wasn't me. Some people thought I would learn to love it, but it just never happened for me. The place never felt like mine in that regard.
You probably have a strong natural attraction to cream and it's the same thing I bet. No matter how much you give other colours a try and know they may work, your emotional side is telling you to go light. If you've given it a try and it still isn't making you go 'ah' then you may be working against your nature.
My mom was the same way. She liked cream, white, and shades close to that. She wouldn't have dreamed in a million years of having anything but light on her windows. She'd try on occassion, but it never worked and ended up back at the store.
If that is what works for you then you might want to consider doing the windows in cream (for my mom is was the colour of the light coming in that really made white or cream manditory) and using the red in other ways. Don't fight what makes you happier. You have your throw and are ordering the slip cover, so maybe it's using the photo you like as your guide for the more permanent elements and using the red for the accessories and things you can change more easily. You aren't ever going to be able to be really pleased if you go against your grain, so better to learn to work with it I think.
its my crazy hectic house :hairpull: that drives me to serene  as my brain is on overload and i need things to calm me

kipper that is a wonderful thought...i would love to do that, convincing the dh is another story :D ....and see that is the one thing that is my most favorite part of the room is the golden color and the cream on the bottom half of the dining area....that i wouldnt change....its my accessories that i like but, when im out shopping i find myself attracted to those soft colors again, even in window treatments....crazy eh? thanks kipper, i would love to have my room as you suggested...maybe one day

You know, that room has very similar elements to what you already have in your own home. The brown chair, the dark ottoman, the golden tan wall colour. What's missing is the white fireplace and the builtins.
Have you considered continuing your wainscotting from the dining area into the living area? It's no fireplace, but you'd have that "soft white effect" on the walls while still being able to keep everything else you have going on in the room.
Just a thought,
kipper
