Window recommendation

I'm not sure if people are allowed to recommend companies on this board but we are looking for a window company in the west GTA area. We had a company, that came highly recommended, lined up to replace and enlarge our basement window but the person that was to do it has to have surgery so is unavailable.

If the window doesn't get done then we can't get the basement finished and we really need it all finished before the end of the summer as we are having an exchange student from France come and live at our house and we already feel a bit crowded.

Thanks in advance.

Blueberry, you mentioned you wanted to enlarge your basement window........I don't know if you're aware of it, but you need a permit to do that and if you haven't done it, make sure you apply now as it might not be as fast as you think.......anything going through red tapes take a while.........

We bought our windows directly from the factory because my DH was installing them himself, so unless you're doing that yourselves, my recommendation of company will be futile.

I know some people had their windows done by Atlantic, but they are very pricey as we had researched them before we bought ours.

Good luck.

There have been a couple negative posts on here with regards to Moncada, but I think they did a great job for me and I'm in the West end...I just had my bathroom and kitchen windows replaced back in February (approx. 1mos between ordering and installation).

I had heard of them previously, but my bathroom contractor recommended them, HoH uses them (in fact Mike used to work for them according to the owner who visited us to work out the order) and they are primarily a family run business that have been around for ages. I'm not sure how reasonable their prices were (as I didn't have a chance to do the prerequisite shopping around due to time contraints myself) but I didn't feel it was outrageous. There were two installers when they came out and did each window in about an hour.

Everything I've heard and experienced with windows (I had mine done last year) says to avoid Sears and the two big box stores. They are way more expensive and more limited in selection than the smaller companies. I have no suggestion for you since I am in a different city, but around here it's better to go with the locally owned companies who manufacture windows themselves. If you have any homes being renoed nearby, ask the general contractor as they often know which are best.

Have you thought about Sears? It may be worth a call to check them out. :)
