So....I'm supposed to be concentrating on wall colours and flooring but I can't seem to get this pic out of my mind. It's a pic I took on my frist visit to view the condo.
Does anybody have any other ideas other then VERTICAL BLINDS for a window such as this with a bulkhead/lower window pane. You can't tell from the pic but it's the window only has a lower pane on the right side.
That is a heater at the bottom - so....gotta stay clear of that.
OH that just made me think of something else...do I paint ALL of the bulkhead the same colour as the wall - or do I leave the bottom of he bulk head white?? The room is 15 X 10.
Thanks!

Definitely paint the bulkhead the same colour as the wall (including the bottom of it). As for window treatments, my first thought is to run horizontal blinds at the heighth of the shortest window on the right all the way across. ( Is there a short one on the left as well?) If there is one on the left as well, I would use panels on both shorter windows.
Another pic of this window would be helpful (straight on shot). Right now it's a hard call as to what to do (?) Why do contractors do this???????
I have seen those ceiling mount screens panels at IKEA..in the drapery department ....the ones that work on a tracking system....where you can have like 3 or 4 panels...and I think that would work in this situation it would allow you to cover the entire window and bump out...and move the panels to one side ( where the bump out is when you want it completely open) .....just a thought...................you would have to mount the track on the ceiling and across the entire length of the window and bump out....stopping at the other bulkhead running parellel...hope that makes sense...so the mount and panels would stop over the right side of the last window..with bump out hiding above.....but not including the furthest bulkhead :hairpull: hope I am clear.......
I would paint it to match the wall and the under side the same color I think when you have something like that you wan to blend it in. As far as the drapes I would put a rod at the lower window height and draw the drapes right across when you want them closed and the upper part I would put a valance type across that would stay in place all the time. You could do it a plain or as fancy as you like depending on your style.
treat the windows as three seperate windows. So if you were going to use horizontal blinds do one in the middle going up to the top and two on the sides. I would paint the bulkheads whatever wall color you choose.
On the paint, I think if you painted the ceiling colour on the bottom of that bulkhead you are asking for a big white stripe around the room. Now that could get interesting if you did another colour (not the ceiling colour) but I think you have to regard that as 'wall', just bent a bit.
I think the windows might also need some craftiness. What if you used the bottom of the bulkhead height as the main height and hung a rod right across? So from one side of the room to the other, windows are covered with the same treatment. That leaves you with the bit above which you could leave alone or treat differently.
Now I'm thinking more drama again so not thinking vellum here. Let's pretend your room was a nice reddy burnt orange, brown sofa, light floor. Main curtains could be say the orange (only shiny, silk or metallic sort of) and the top could be another rod with a dark brown shorter piece of fabric which would just happen to match the colour you paint out that bulkhead (wall colour is still on the bottom of that bulkhead). Or maybe instead of brown, it's a darker or lighter version of the wall?
I guess what I see is somehow trying to unify that bit of trouble that the bulkhead is causing and trying to make it a graphic element instead.
I suppose the other option is to try and treat the tallest window as the only window and use something very opaque over that shorter one that would be the wall colour. IN essence trying to make it go away. It's hard to know how that would look without knowing what is happening on the left side of that big window.
Maybe you could think of some colours to use for vertical stripes? Each panel could be a different colour and when you hit the panel under the bulkhead, just paint the bulkhead in that section with the same colour?
I am not sure what I would do. But if you bought this condo, I imagine that the window verticals would have to stay as part of the sale so I would move in and live with it as is for awhile to really get a feel for the place before doing anything about window treatments.
I think the bulkheads would be painted the same as walls.
oh my gosh i have stared at this window.....but you know what, i havent a clue  is do see how the one pane is at a different level.... this one i must leave for our experts on here.........as far as the bulkhead, i cant really see the ceiling but i would almost think you would paint it out the same color as the walls............sorry im not much help :(
