hi ladies;

i was hoping someone would have a green friendly cleaner idea for me.

i've had an antique tea wagon stored in my unfinished basement for a few years now. dispite having it covered, it's disgustly dirty with grime build up. i want to clean it up to sell it. does anyone have any ideas on how to clean it while not affecting the varnish??

thanks in advance!.

thanks for your imput ladies.

i scrubbed her down with warm water and dish detergent wiping dry really quickly as i was paranoid i would hurt the finish. i polished her up with bee wax furniture polish and she's now glowing. thanks again.

I've used Murphy's on all of my wood for years. Two or three times per year I give all of my wood furniture a Murphy's cleaning......I still use the wax based ones the rest of the time.

Doesn't Murphy's have a wood cleaner for taking off the grime. I am not sure how eco friendly it is but it may cut through the build up better than just palin water.

Hi Cathie, yes I wipe with a dry cloth after I use the damp cloth on it.
You might want to try and go to HD or Lowes or Home Hardware, they might have a soft cleaner that you could apply just to get the grime off it.

poorgirl, i suspect your dh is correct. from what i've read, not only does the wax build up but causes dirt to adhere to it as well.
so you use a damp cloth and a soft dry one right after to prevent damaging the finish??

My DH is a wood man, he will not let me put anything but a damp cloth on any of the wood furntiure we have, he has always told me that all the cleaners we have only leave a wax buildup on the furniture. I have used water for years and so far so good.
