I really need advice. I'd love to have wood floors in my kitchen, it's an open concept living/dining/kitchen and I want everything to flow and not cut up with tile.

OK

I am installing an engineered Doussie, one of the harder woods (harder than oak) in my open concept condo. I am not afraid of water damage so much as dropping stuff on it, so I will be putting a rug in my kitchen right away! But I agree - go for it, all one floor will look great.
we had wood ( prefinished oak) in our kitchen in our last house with no problem ( and the dishwasher overflowed at least 3 times). We now have birch flooring in our kitchen in our new house. It looks great but it is softer than oak and the finish isn't so shiny so we will see how it holds up. I too like the look of all wood and not breaking it up with tile.
Everyone is afraid of water re dishwasher, etc. but I love the look of wood and many of the old kitchen's wood floors and still there. Spills and all.
Thanks everyone! After talking to 1 crazy flooring sales lady, who personally wouldn't put hardwood in her kitchen, I've decided to go for it!
YAY!
Lisa at home: We tweaked the plan a little bit but it's essentially the same, we LOVE it and can't wait to move in!
I have wood all through my main level except bath and laundry and love it in the kitchen. I also didn't have anatural break to switch flooring so I went with it and so glad I did.
Cork would be a possibility. We just renovated our kitchen and we've put a very dark cork in the kitchen and the little TV room off of it. With it being such a dark colour, you don't see a lot of the cork pattern, so it doesn't look as busy as cork might look. I love it, and it would be suitable throughout the house.
We used Torlys cork floor and the pattern is called Coffee Bean, I think.
Hi Claudia's maman
With an open concept floor plan, I would tend to keep the flooring similiar(Ie all hardwood)...more visually appealing I think.
We have hardwood all on our main floor; Living room into Kitchen/Dining area.
Love it! If you like to lounge/entertain in the kitchen area as we tend to do, it's far easier on your feet/legs too than tile floor. Yes-hardwood might take a little more abuse than tile floor (with chairs etc) but doesn't bother me at all.
BTW- your floor plan looks great!!
