I've been in my new house for 1.5 months now and most of the windows still have no window coverings  We really want to get the 2" wood or faux wood (I really don't care as long as they look good if they're wood or faux) and we got an estimate the other day for our family room window for Hunter Douglas faux wood and it would be $1100  I looked at the pricing guide at Home Depot today for Hunter Douglas and Hampton Bay and they were $1150 and $900... Could anyone recommend another brand or place to get good quality blinds at a more reasonable price? I was hoping to cover all my windows for $1100 not just one!

I bought 2 white faux wood blinds from Bouclair a few weeks ago, when it was 50% off!!!!! :D Since they were too wide for my windows, I went to Rona and bought a chop saw that was onsale! Blinds + saw was still less than $1100!!!! :D
Sorry to say but the white blinds do not show the dust as much as the wood.....I speak from experience....I agree that there will be dust regardless but my comment was the wood shows the dust more.........I have dusted them probably 3 times since I installed them to one time on my white blinds..........but yes this is something that is just part of the upkeep.................good luck.....
Dust shows on any of the colours even white. It's just something you have to keep up with.
Thanks fr the pic, the Laredo Pecan's were the same ones we were considering! Not too keen about the dust though
I just installed my 2 blinds from blinds to go last week....they are the real wood 2 inch blinds in the pecan color......see picture....it took me less than 20 minutes to hang the 2........................I have done all my blinds....and yes the HD are in white but someone was telling me that they come in a faux wood color but they look faux...the same dilemma I had at blinds to go....for a $150 more I got the real wood and they looked and smelled real......I did notice thought that the dust shows on them........AGRH!!!. :hairpull: ..good luck.............. :D
We decided this after talking to the Blinds to Go people and we will definitely be doing it ourselves!
wood or faux wood blinds are EASY to install as long as they are not plantation type shudders that cover the perimeter of the molding. Install your blinds yourself. Instructions are in with the packaging. Once you have done one the rest are a breeze. It will save you alot of money.
Well I went to Blinds to Go today and got a quote for real wood blinds of $699 for the family room window, ranging down to about $455 for the white replica (but I have decided on stain to match the hardwood so white isnt an option). The stain choices on the 2 other faux wood blinds were not quite as suitable and they didn't look very 'real' at all. I guess $699 is better than $1100. I have seen the ones at Home Depot in boxes but they're only in white right? This window is a large 94" as well so most styles would have to use 2 or 3 blinds and we were hoping for just 1 long one, the real wood can be done, the faux's would require 2 because they are heavier. I will double check your suggestions before going ahead and ordering though!
To answer the question about the steep price, installation and tax were included in the $1100 quote.
i ordered the faux wood blinds with tape from sears in white. i was not impressed with them at all. they looked really fake and cheap, so i returned them. oh, and they sent me the wrong sizes. just a warning to you. :)

I discovered that Home Depot does have a service and cut your blinds in the store.....the 2 inch faux wood blind in the white and they were priced between $19 bucks a blind up to about $80 bucks a blind depending on the size.......( look for their brand I think...they are in a white box with a reddish label near their saw area in the blinds department)..........most windows today have standard sizes so you should be okay at HD.............measure the inside of the window and make sure you have the depth in the sill to accomodate a 2 inch blind....then take the measurements to HD and they will start opening the boxes and cutting on the spot...but they usually limit you to 3 or 4 blinds at a time..........unless it is not busy.......... :D ........I did the majority of my windows from HD...and the price was way less than a $1000......although I used Blinds to go for my real wood blinds in the dining room and that cost me $600 for the pair...(ouch).............good luck..................... :D
We bought 2" Levolor Faux wood blinds for our entire house (30 or so) at Home Depot and it cost $1100. A lot of the blinds were custom sized and a number of them were quite large.
$1100+ for one room seems like a lot. Are you paying for installation as well ?

Have you checked Sears? Take a look at sears.ca as they have a few different price points on faux wood blinds.
