I noticed there has been some interest in using inspirational words as wall decor. HomeSense just got some beautiful ones in and I thought I'd share in case anyone was still thinking of using them. They had the following:
"indulge"
"dance"
"sing"
"smile"
"sleep"
"relax"
They were metal with a sort of aged look. There were also a couple other ones that I can't recall and they were $16.99 each.

once you get those medals mounted they will look great. don't be afraid to do something creative with them. i think 2 issues back of 'real simple' magazine had some found objects mounted in different ways. you might get some good ideas that way. if i can find my old issue, i will tell you just where to look.
I think it's great when I read the you were looking at Italy sas a personal theme...I have a little story to tell you with a similiar theme... we moved into our new house last year and I was unpacking my DH's stuff and found this really old and small box...It looked ancient. When I opened it, there were a number of patches and a piece of paper written in Italian. Turns out, DH's great gandfather fought for the Italian army and they were his medals/patches he wore on his uniform! I put them away, not knowing what to do with them, but I just realized recently what to do with them....I am on the search for a small shadow box and I'm going to place them in the shadowbox with a picture of him and place it in our office shelves... I'm hoping it will look great. Perfect example of a style that is clearly not mine, but it's about family, which overrides some design ideas!
I'm going to go there today! When your credit card balance is at zero, god knows you need to spend! Our in-laws just bought us a bed (very fancy, pillowtop...) so I must also travel to Ikea to pick up a cheap but hopefully nice bedframe for our guest rooom so we can move the old bed in.... I'm excited.....it looks lile a yucky day again, time for shopping!

WHOOO HOOOOO! awesome! :)
Thank you
used to be and I think it may even be open now! It was set to open a few weeks ago when I was at the Bombay outlet that is in the next plaza!! YAHOOOOOO!
become basics, and some you love and choose to use because it speaks to you. If there were no trends, then wouldn't all our homes look the same. What we consider traditional now was once a new style. As for word art, I'm planning to use it in DD's room to section the space, and it's not because it's a "trend", but because I like it and I tink it will work. To each his own!
I'm with you ... I tend to lean more towards the staples in life, things that will stand the test of time, guess that I am too conservative for my own good - my mother's bright red walls are with me still! I go for neutrals - I like classic staples, not the fads, but that's just me - I enjoy everyone else experimenting! :) Love the look of the word wall decor , but couldn't purchase it myself!
I heard that there was a new HomeSense opening in Pickering .. anyone know where and if it's open yet?
Thanks!
:)
I dont know anyone who redecorates their home with every new trend. I design around what I love and what makes me comfortable. If it takes "words" on my wall to provide some daily inspiration than thats what I'll do.
Did anyone catch todays episode of Home to Go, it showcased a guy who just buys what he loves and puts it all together, nothing matched perfectly, trend was mixed with old etc. and it actually looked wonderful,
So ladies.....nail those words to the wall and enjoy them for as long as they bring you happiness !!!!!
you keep those precious things you like so much. That is not a trend but personnal memories.
i completely agree!
not all decorating themes are based solely on the latest trend.
my personal theme is italy. my husband's grandfather died there during the war. for our honeymoon we went over to pay our respects and travel in southern italy. we had such a wonderful time off the beaten path and i discovered so many neat things.
Hi!
I agree, that it could probably be on its way out, however I still like it. I have one word in my office, but I spent next to nothing on it, so I don't really mind.
As far as the "Paris theme", I have a lot of Paris items, as well as other French items, but I had these long before it was a trend. DH & I went to France and collected some French items that have been popping up all over here now. (I have to say, it was a bit annoying, because it kind of takes away the "specialness" of our things).
But, I'm keeping the French stuff - it has personal sentiment. For me it's not just a trend, but memories of a wonderful time in my life.
:)
I would not spend a lot of money on that either as I think it will pass soon as another trend.
i think the whole word art thing is rapidly becoming one of those over-done trends (dare i say the *paris* theme is there too).
everyone seems to have be rushing to put a word up somewhere. i want to see someone do something alittle different.... a little unique... a little brazen and bold...
i realize that i may have just insulted or alienated a large group of people, but i know that somewhere out there, there must be someone who thinks like me? (though more and more i find myself marching all alone to my own little drum).
I saw the word art at homesense today. I though they were expensive for what they are. just my opinion.
too funny....you wrestle for that sconce gosh darnitt!!
doesn't stop me from peeking in other people's carts to see if they have MY item(s) in question!
sometimes i'll put something on hold and think about it over night and if i still really want it i go back the next day and get it...this is only for higher priced items though. i think they know my name over there now.
...of my life at winners & homesense...it's always gone when i go back...guess i wasn't meant to have it eh?!
we'll both go rushing back to get them like mad women and they'll all be gone!
Me too...to get up to HomeSense to see them all....darn you decorgirl!!! You started it!!
ha
Pricey....geez...16.99 times 4 is...
too much...no..wait...doh!
that would be a great idea...stagger them a little and they should look great. I like the fact that they don't lay flat against the wall...they actually sit about an inch from the wall so it appears to be floating. See.. now you're making me want to go back and get them again!! Just when I was just getting over them already! hehe
Me too, I thought they would look okay on top of my windows in bathroom....cuz I tried a paint finish (how faux paux!!), and I can see the mistakes up there!!
Maybe a shelf / dust collector is the way to go...ho hum
I was at HomeSense though..owned by the same company as Winners but you could try there too!
I have come to the conclusion that I will need another job to support my decorating habits!
So, they have more...doh! I should've read further back...omg..dare I go back????
hmmmmmmmmm Thanks alot DecorGirl...LOL......
I did the same thing last night...then again tonight! I had "relax" and "induldge" in my cart but ended up putting them back. I like them but I wasn't sure if I liked the price...I think it's a bit much when you start to add up 2 or 3 of them @ $16.99 each.
I saw 2 metal word plaques $ 16.99 each. Antiqued white/brownish...BREATHE and SIMPLIFY
I carried them around for an hour, then decided no. Why do I do this??? argggggg
and they had it right beside the one that said "smile". I thought they went together rather nicely. I am still thinking about it!
I was there yesterday afternoon..hahah...just missed each other.
I was just there last night...the one at Trinity Common. I have a couple on hold I'm going to pick up tonight.
were you at HS recently?
