Our appliances were delivered today and we found out that the slide in range we purchased does not fit correctly. What happened was that our builder made room for a normal standard range that has the back on it. We made the mistake of telling him we were getting a regular stove and well...picked this one instead.
So, there is a gap between the back of the stove and the wall where the continuation of the laminate countertop back was supposed to be. Everything would now fall behind the stove if we were to leave it as is.
My question: should I just get a new stove or do the fix up to make it look "right"
And if we were to do the fix up, would it always look unfinished or could I make it look right? I was thinking stainless steel backsplash and my builder said he would be able to get a piece of countertop to put behind it. You would be able to see the seam though.
We can't afford to just get a new slab of countertop.

Hi there Claudia, we haven't received the piece for the stove just yet but I will ask what the name is when I go in to pick it up this week. They gave it to us free of charge because they never discussed that there could be a problem. Sears is great like that. I haven't purchased the metal yet either. My fiance thinks we should just go to the laminate but I think that would make it look too choppy because my laminate is so dark so I think we are going to carry it up to the range hood. I will post pics of the finished project ;)
let us know how it all turns out. I may have this problem in the near future. The house we are thinking of buying has the gap behind the stove as well. Same thing probably happened. What do you call the thing Sears carries to fix the problem? Are you going to put the stainless all the way up the wall or just to the laminate? The house I am considering has a tile backsplash, but the laminate goes up the wall so I was thinking of doing it just to the laminate.
I was at BIL on the weekend and he has exactly that the sheet metal place made his and he had it in a diamond pattern and it looks really good with the stainless range hood. He said it was dirt cheap.
Thanks, I'm calling around to sheet metal places now and it is quite reasonable what they are asking for the price. So I am getting quite excited. :)
ohhh i think i totally misunderstood what you needed to remedy the problem. now i get it! that will look fine esp if they sell something specifically for that reason. the stainless backsplash will look smashing as well!
good luck..:D
Thanks ladies, I really love the stove so I think I am going to get some sort of fix for it. We called Sears and they sell a piece just for this purpose so we are going to get that, then a piece of stainless steel for the backsplash.
I wish we didn't have the laminate going up on to the wall. Karenm, I really like yours. I wish I had have noticed yours before I did my laminate countertops!
Anyways, what is done is done, I have to work with it. Hopefully it will turn out nice.
I have a slide in range and I love it. It looks soo sleek. I would see what you can do to accommodate it, if there's a seam in the countertop at the back there, you'll hardly notice it.
don't you hate it when that happens! personally i would switch the stove to the one that fits properly instead of mucking about trying to make this one fit. i think since the house is brand spanking new this error will be glaring at you every time you look at it. JMO.
can you exchange the stove??
