recycle cards to make tags
this month has some cool ideas for displaying Christmas cards. Easy to do and not all that "country"! ;)
I've made gift tags from old cards for many years. I love them! I have also collected "nativity" themed cards for years. I've displayed them as a group over the years, and am finally at the point of creating a collage of them to tell the CHristmas story.

My personal favourites are Plato's home made ornaments, I particularly like his depiction of Zeus, like a tiny whiny little man scared of his mother. All good stuff.
...yes thank you, I still drool over those beautiful gift tags made by Aristotle in the National museum in Athens!!
I guess after thousands of years ahead of us, you've perfected creative ideas. In our house unfortunately it's a competition on who can buy the most expensive and prettiest christmas wrapping paper, cards, etc etc. This have made me into a nice little beaver who hoards everything from last year, like an old aunt I fold it up neatly and save it. Perhaps your idea is a good opportunity to actually use it again.
have started making tags:) There are great hole punches now that are oversized in various shapes so I just punch out the prettiest spot. wouldn't Martha be proud of us?:D
I read them, display them, then toss them. I think I 'm going to hell now...
I like using an eyelet maker tool I have which was quite inexpensive and came with lots of metal eyelets in different colours. The result is a metal eyelet like those you thread shoelaces through on sneakers. It works on paper, and then you can thread through string, or even pretty ribbon.
I also like to make a border around my tags. One way is to paint a bit of white craft glue around the edge of the tag and sprinkle with a bit of glitter. An easier, faster method is to just use an opaque marker in a dark colour, like black or navy.
Of all the shapes, I like making circular ones best.
I do the gift tags with them. I'm also going to recycle them into cards I will send out next year now that I make my own cards. I can cut out the nicest parts and pass them on.
I can't bear to throw some of those beautiful sentiments away so snipping them into fragments is a way of sharing them all over again. I have done this for years, now and it is a lot of fun too.
I remember when I was in grade school we would take old cards cut out the images that we liked and created our own winter or Xmas scene on a big piece of cardboard. I don't think she was amused when I had Mrs Claus trying to climb down the chimney and Santa up in the tree!!
also take some to the school for the Kindergarten kids to use in art projects. Teachers love to get them.
great idea Elise....can I copy it????
