Yay!! Finally found bedding!!

smoodgie's picture

I'd given up hope that I'd ever find bedding that I like for the master bedroom. It's never a good idea to try to match bedding to the wall colour  But I think I finally did it!! A member here told me about bedding she saw at HomeSense. I popped in after work today, and found the bedding she told me about -- and I think it's perfect!!

Now the hard part.... deciding between the blue and the gray. I bought the duvet & shams and coverlet in both colours. My hubby gave me his opinion, and now I need yours :) What do you think -- all gray, all blue, or a combo of the two??

For those who missed it, the wall colour is Debbie Travis Manta Gray colour-matched with Sico Cashmere paint.

I bought the chandelier with the shades last night :bliss: But we'll have to wait till the weekend to hang it, because we need to do it during the day so we can see what we're doing!!

idecor8 and cdnjatgirl, I like the idea of a gray blanket or coverlet in a different fabric. I don't want ALL the bedding to be from this set -- some different textures and fabrics will add more interest, I think. And I like the idea of a silver rod with silver rings -- that would tie in with the chandelier and the hardware on the furniture.

homie, the furniture is the Affinity line from Broyhill.

DBD, that's a good idea for curtains. In this case, I want something more shimmery than the white duvet cover. But that's a good tip to keep in mind for some other rooms that need window treatments.

Emily, you have no idea how many unsuccessful shopping trips I've been on!! I was so frustrated because I couldn't find what I wanted anywhere. And there are only so many place in Ottawa to shop!! And it's totally OK that you said to keep both sets -- that's definitely the direction I'm leaning in :)

jan, my hubby prefers the blue. Which is what everyone here likes best too!! But sadly, it's my blank cheque that I'm doing all the shopping with!! ;)

bigmama, I'll get the bedding on the bed soon, I promise!! I want to see how it looks out of the packages too!! :D

Whew, I think that covers all the replies since my last one!! I love all the feedback -- it's SO helpful!! :clapping:

I aaw the bedding at Homesense yesterday..BLUE for sure :)
I would suggest what IDECOR8 said about getting the Euroshams etc.
I think your light will work great but the fabrics are not doing it for me ;)

What were your DH's first choices - prior to him giving you a blank cheque to buy it all. What a sweety.

Smoodgie, Smoodgie, Smoodgie, oh my goodness girl, you must have a black belt in shopping.......
I also prefer the blue, but, when in doubt keep both. I think that they would look very nice mixed, as someone already mentioned the lighter one would be lovely for summer. The blue is very nice and rich with your wall colour, I guess that we can make excuses for both, I am sure not what you wanted to hear. I think that I like the original chandelier if you can find it. Your bedroom is going to be lovely when you get it all together......

Seeing your curtain fabric on the pile there isn't working for me. maybe it's the monitor, but neither the blue or silver quite hits the colours of the bedding for me. YOur mileage may vary and of course, whatever type of light bulbs you use will make a difference too.

On another thought...if the bedding is a good price, what about using some of it for drapes? Duvet cover might be just the right size. I fudged one in one house. A winners king size duvet cover as curtain. You can attach tabs or even just cut a small hole in each side to get the rod through. So your drapes could either be the same as the duvet/main piece or the cushions.

I like the idea of doing a blanket in wool to add some contrast. Maybe you could use some other fabrics for the throw cushions or something else...to add more interest and to tie the colours in. You may want to introduce other textures. I like the striped drapery.

My thoughts are go with the blue coverlet, buy a set of blue euro shams and a set of gray standard shams. Keep only one blue throw cushions and the two grey throw cushions. Take back the gray coverlet, and look for a silvery gray blanket - in a soft wool. Go for the silver chandelier with the crystals and a big silver chunky decorative rod with silver cutain rings.

I like the first chandelier with the shades. Seems more "sparkly" and romantic for the bedroom.

Sorry missed that ......... You already told us the colour!!!!

For what it's worth - I also like both sets but if I had to pick one I would go with the dark blue. It looks stunning with the fabric and the wall colour - what is your wall colour? I also love both the silver and black chandelliers - but the silver one with the shades might look best with the wall colour. But no matter what you pick it is going to look absolutely beautiful. Don't you just love HomeSense!!

I love the blue. What colour are the walls?

It's all machine washable :) And we don't let the pets onto the bed, ever since I think I started to be allergic to one of our cats. So no issues there :)

I definitely don't want to change whatever light fixture I choose any time soon!! Do you really think black will be outdated soon??

Here are a couple of pics of the potential curtain fabric and a silver pillow cover I forgot I had -- do they work?? The blue on the fabric isn't quite the same as the blue bedding, but I don't think it's a problem.

Oh, and the replacement dresser arrived just before Christmas. The colour matches the other pieces way better than the first dresser that was delivered. No form of compensation from the store fro all the aggravation, though.

How about I throw a hammer in again (I tend to be a good hammer thrower)? Have you checked the care/washing instructions on the sets? Do the dogs like to relax on the bed?

Ebony sleeps on my bed so that's why it comes to mind. Fur and other dog stuff seems to mean machine wash is manditory. It never fails in this house, generally if something is fresh out of the dryer that is the time Ebony feels the need to gack so having something that will take a lot of washing and drying is a good thing. I also try and make sure I pick colours that don't show her fur as much (so your blue may show it more than the silver might).

I can tell you I have two microsuede sets, brown and blue. I can use them separately or mix it up. It does mean I can have a change anytime I like which is why I thought you might want to consider keeping both. I also have one throw that goes with both (helps keep the cost down).

As for the light, I think the top two work. A little more in keeping with your furniture to me. The bottom one seems a little cold to me. If it was between the two chandeliers, I think I'd go with the top one only because I have a feeling the black chandelier thing is a bit trendy. Not a big deal if you don't mind changing your light again in a couple of years but something to consider.

Also, what happened with your furniture problem? Did you ever settle that? I can't remember if you posted the outcome.

I don't think I saw this before - your dresser, art and three pottery pieces are the perfect balance.

okay you said you cant get the pillows in silvery grey....so how about this, grey duvet on the bed, blue coverlet folded near bottom and the blue throw pillows ..........i agree, you must try it on the bed.....trust me, if i can manage to get sets back in their bag, you can! :D may not be perfect but its in there..........if you go with the black light i would do a black curtain rod, remember they say a little black grounds the room. Oh your DH is spoiling you, very sweet of him to let you keep both sets :clapping: Mr. Smoodgie, can you talk to my dh? :D Now, when you get home we want pics of that bedding ON the bed.....do a couple different looks! :D Please.....with a cherry on top!

the dark blue is beautful smoodgie.....it's dramatic and a keeper imo. i like the idea of the 2nd chandellier you posted, and yes, go with a black curtain rod too. i love splashes of black in any room. you are going to have one gorgeous bedroom by the time you are finished. :)

I would defneately open them up and try the spread on the bed. I think you get a complete look that way and really with your hubby helping you fold it should not be too hard to get back in the package
I like the lighter color with all your dark furniture but on my monitor it looks more white than silver grey so I can not say for sure.
I think by trying it all out of the packages you will have a better idea.

OK, here I am with more pics and questions -- I'm just so excited about this bedding, all the wheels in my head are spinning with ideas for the bedroom!!

Here are some chandeliers that some of you posted for me. I still really like the one with the shades, but I also like the black metal & crystal one (both from Home Depot). And the other one is kind of cool -- although I have no idea where it's from.

Would the black metal be too dark?? Does it depend in what colour the curtain rod is?? Should I give in and go with a ceiling fan instead, seeing as my hubby is being so cooperative (for some strange reason!!)!?!?

The lamps on the side tables will likely be glass column bases with white shades, if that helps.

cdnjatgirl, how many bedding pieces do you think I should buy?!

cdnjatgirl's picture
cdnjatgirl

I would keep both of them and buy everything. Can you make it to another Home Sense? Buy all of the pieces and that way you have a sometime to decide. I like to change things up according to the seasons and this way you have so many options.

smoodgie's picture

So hubby doesn't seem to care if I keep everything!! :confetti:

Hmmmm...... I'm SO not good at making decisions!! Do I keep two sets of everything, one duvet set and the two coverlets, both duvet sets and one coverlet.....

BTW, the two blue pillows are actually throw pillows and not pillows in shams. There were only those two left (and none in gray), so I nabbed them both, just in case!! They do have shams in the same fabric/pattern in both gray and blue for standard pillows and Euro pillows.

Inglewood, the wall colour is a Debbie Travis colour called Manta Gray. I had it colour-matched with Sico Cashmere paint.

I like the blue batter than the grey...but you certainly could keep both sets..and switch it up whenever the mood strikes.

Great fabric!

I think you really have to take it out of the packaging to find how you like it best. I could do 4 shams on a bed and use both sets, but for some that is too many pillows. If you like combining the 2 colours at once, it might be nice to have a coverlet in both colours: one for the bed, and one folded across the foot of the bed, used with both sets of shams. It might be easiest to pare down on what you have by selecting just one duvet, especially if you do not use the duvet year-round.

Inglewood's picture

Love the blue. I would be inclined to keep both sets. You could use the gray in the summer months and switch up to the blue for the colder seasons. Nice choice either way.

What is the colour you painted the walls? Was it a BM colour? I love it!

idecor8's picture
idecor8

I agree with what most have said, either keep both or, if you don't want keep both coverlets then I would pick the blue one and keep both sets of shams - one blue set and one grey set and then use them all on the bed and then add some accent pillows maybe in the stripe.

JoAnnaM's picture

I know I am a little late voting on this one....but I would keep both sets and do either a mix and match or have the second one to switch to for a change. The fabric you chose for the curtains looks very nice and rich.....hope it goes well with your bedding....keep us posted.

smoodgie's picture
smoodgie

Well who would have guessed that my hubby has good decorating taste?! :p ;) He also picked the all-blue scheme :)

I'm a bit reluctant to put the bedding on the bed because I'm crappy at folding and I'll never be able to fit stuff back in the packaging!! Although DBD may be onto something...... keep both sets and then I have LOTS of options for mixing and matching whenever the mood hits :) And then I don't have to make a decision between the two colours :D

OMG -- I just realized.... the blue & gray striped fabric that I was thinking of using for the curtains might work PERFECTLY with both colours of bedding!! Oh crap, I wish I'd thought of this last night -- now I have to wait till I go home at lunch to take a look at the fabric sample with the bedding :hairpull:

In the meantime, here's a pic of the fabric and a pic of the chest so you can see the furniture colour. I'll take some updated pics of the bedroom to post later.

I love the richness of the blue with the flooring and wall colour. That's my pick!
