NEVERSATISFIED......yes i like the inspiration pic too.....however, i didnt keep this partircular cabinet, it was a little too large but im still looking to get rid of that end table and replacing it with a nice cabinet or something....or like what this girl did, a cabinet in the corner and a small end table...depends on the stand i find........Yes, Sue is a delight to work with......im glad you were pleased, i think im going to go ahead and get a subtle one for above my pictures in the living room....heck cheaper than new art and i really do love my tree pictures

SWEETPEA.....well the cabinet went back out, but im still going to get rid of that end table when i find the right cabinet fo there.....are you ready to sell yours yet?? lol thank you, dh loves his picture in the dining area/kitchen and i dont mind it either

DEVINEDESIGN......thanks devine, i think im going to go with a walltalk....so sit tight,. im calling on you girls to help me out with color and saying....lol

ARIZONA.......i believe i have my answer, the pics do look better raised that bit but im loving the idea of the wall talk above, ecspecially because this is what you see coming in the front door, so im hoping it will add, and the iron work was shipped back downstairs and will likely go into the yardsale

I think the scroll iron work will be too dark on that wall above the 2 pictures you already have there. Maybe something in a colour close to your wall colour but not the same. That way you have something to fill the space but it's not too obvious and distracting. I also like the idea of wall talk in a very super subtle style. I would really prefer nothing above the pictures but I had a big hole of space on one of my walls too that bugged me for some reason so I found something to fill it that was kind of a tone on tone idea and it seems to do the trick.

I too liked your inspiration pic....the layout looks quite similar to what you have. And think getting the wall talk for above your pics might be just what that space needs. Cant wait to see how it looks!!

Hi Janet....DH's picture definately belongs in the diningroom ...it looks great there....I agree with painting the pine cabinet in black or expresso & adding new hardware...Janet..if you don't like the cabinet in the livingroom what about putting it under DH's pic in the diningroom ,or would it be to close to the table.? I would keep that cabinet as it can go in any room being the nice size it is. :)

I like your inspiration pic; it looks very similar to yours! That's exactly what I had in mind for that corner by the window; even if you don't use a longer cabinet (which I think that new one you have does the trick) I still think a couple of pictures placed vertically would work. I think it's worth painting & changing the hardware on the new table.

I actually had a couple of sayings made custom; I had 'Family' done in the same font as your saying in your bedroom; I also had a monogram made for my friend that's getting married (same as muranogirls) and I also had this saying made - one of my faves - 'Forget love, I'd rather fall in chocolate'. I loved dealing with Sue, my order was ready really quickly & she tried out different things for me unti I was happy!

i did raise the pictures a tad and it does look better, but you are right....the room has nothing with height....im not real stuck on this plant, and i think its because its too short, i will try raising it up, i bet that will make a difference. Its funny that you should mention the walltalk as i did consider that too, ecspecially after the girl that does them told me she did one for above a sofa.....now my chair, i cant put anything behind it, first because the dogs bed is there and secondly when it reclines the back of the chair hits it, so i have been racking my brain on what to do for height in that area  and the new table is gone, i realy couldnt be bothered finishing it and dh wouldnt like the height for his drinks.. Oh and remember the shelf we put above the tv, we couldnt get it to hang right, it was always leaning....so i had my sister take that down too, i figured i might as well get all the holes at one time....so now i will find something else for there :)
thanks DBD

Oh so there's the explanation for the new table.

Janet, pictures are supposed to be eye level from where normally viewed which in the case of your LR is probably from sitting, not standing so you are driving yourself nuts for the wrong reasons.

I think what is bugging you might be that the top 4' of your wall is empty, along the whole wall. How about putting that new plant on a stand to get it almost to the ceiling? If you look in your sample picture they have some things up higher. The other picture you have could get you another 5" but the alternative is to get something to fill the upper portions on the sides (like where you plant is and over by your chair).

Another thought, since you like the wall talk, why not order one for over the sofa but in clear, fairly large letter size? That would give you some subtle interest (since it would only be a different sheen than your walls) to fill that top space without being too fussy.

yes the rug is removed and in storage for now....not sure if im going to keep it, the darn thing could be outdated by the time i get to use it again.....i like the easy cleaning of it being out of the room but i do miss it just because i loved that rug :)

yes, normally i hang my pics at eye level but with these two hung above the sofa you are looking down at them......that is what makes me wonder if they are too low in THIS particular case.....thanks lass

thoughts anyone???

Should be 6 to 9 inches above sofa or at eye level, so you are in the ball park. ;) Going off topic, I note that you did move your rug. I hope you didn't move it too far!!! LOL And once again, your room looks great.

janetc's picture

Another Thought......the Pictures Are Only About 8 Inches Above The Sofa, Which Is Normally Okay But Do You Suppose That They Are Hung Perhaps A Couple Inches Too Low???/ Maybe That Is The Problem In Regards To The Hieght Issue

janetc's picture

lass, no i dont have another picture that size to go with those two, i have one that is rectangle....yes i had three of the flowers but it was too much and almost too symetrical with the back cushions....are you referring to the spindly black lamp.....if so, i think a chunkie one would be better too, but im so bad for buying lamps....but then if i could sell some than dh wouldnt mind so much ...lol and of course i will listen to you

jan...yes the cabinet is in good condition but i really must be sure before i paint it....if not i will give it away.....and yes i do need to look for a pot, so far the plant seems to be doing fine.....i dont have a green thumb :D

jan i wasnt really liking the idea of the iron scroll but just thought i would throw it out there

thanks ladies

The cabinet looks in good condition. Yes, paint it black & add new hardware.

No for adding the scroll over the pictures. It would be too busy imo.

Start looking for that new pot for the plant. Something with wow.

Have you considered a coloured shade for one of your lights?

I like dh's picture in the DR.

LASS's picture

I also like your living room far better that the inspirational picture. Did you have another picture that went with the ones on the wall (no, I think that you had three of the flowers)?

If you could get a third picture in the series that is presently there and try it. I believe someone suggested cutting out a piece of cardboard first. I personally like the pictures that are there. 24" high should hold the wall. I think you are seeing alot of bare space and want to fill it (don't).

Great idea to get pot for plant with WOW. May add weight or something to the corner. The lamp on right doesn't seem to be holding its weight.
Listen, be careful when listening to me, I still don't have all my clutter removed from my living room and just love adding to others. :D

thanks wendy, it certainly is an odd looking plant

thanks arizona....i guess you always see everyone else's room as being nicer...lol

okay here is a few other thoughts......this cabinet came to me FREE.....IT WILL NOT STAY IN THE PINE...if i were to keep it :D

should i waste my time re doing it? i would paint it and add new handles

what is your thoughts on this iron work above the pictures to add height?

sorry i have so many questions :o

JanetC - LOVE your spiky plant in the corner! Gives the room a cool funky/whimsical touch. :)

just to give you all an idea....this is where the picture is hanging now....it looks far bigger in real than in the pics....it holds the dining room wall well.....excuse my dining room, havent done nothing in this room since moving in....it will soon be my next project

I find your inspiration photo too cluttered looking. I prefer your wall.

neversatisified.....what wall talk did you choose? and no pictures!! lol.....she told me someone from here ordered one and i was puzzled as to who it was....i forgot you had asked me about the wall talk

thanks ladies for your input....i do know this picture of dh's works because that is what we had there originally

DBD.....if these two small prints were taller it would look better, i find the width of the two of them together is fine, as i said it seems to be the height....

small prints are 24x24 each and the sofa size one is 29 inches high and 45 long

janinvan....my mother inlaw downsized a few months back so she no longer had space for this plant and gave it to me....if i dont kill it then i plan to put it in a nicer pot..... ;)

neversatisfied....i had considered that too.....adding more pictures.....here is a room that has a layout similiar to mine...i really like what she has done, just not sure i have the space to do the same thing.......take note of the little cabinet at the end with the pictures above

i have dh's print in the dining room right now.....if i could somehow add height to the ones in the living room, that would be great....

So how big is hubby's print compared to the pair?

How about having another picture on the other side of the lamp by the window? Maybe create a little grouping there? I really like the sepias above the sofa but I know what you're saying - maybe it's just because there are no other pictures on that wall? Or maybe a wall sconce or something decorative? Just a thought... Also, I ordered from Sue of Away with Words & she told me to say thank you to you for spreading the word!

If you just happen to find a big picture that you love and it ends up at your house try it behind the sofa.

I just noticed you bought a large plant. Yeah!

I think it's probably more of a personal preference thing, either will look fine. Try cutting out some cardboard or newspaper the size of your frames and sticking that on the wall first before drilling more holes.
