yippee... new furniture decisions

so i've always wanted a living room with just chairs....and i've finially talked hubby into it.....i'm over the moon !!!
don't know if you were ever darma and greg fans....but they had the funkiest chairs.
today we moved our livingroom sofa and chair into the den...cuz it's incredibly comfy for reading and watching movies....and our well loved older couch into the livingroom for the time being. so we went furniture browsing today...just so many chairs to choose from. i've got lots of time to make a decision...cuz the panellings coming down soon...so i'm repainting the whole room...and what to get that done before anything new arrives
so i guess my question is...if you were desiging a room with just chairs...4-5... what chairs would you use??? how would you lay them out in a room?? some will be for a conversation area infront of the fire place....and more for the actual livingroom space. curious as to what your responces will be. ;) Do you think i'm nuts for wanting to do this ???
this chair is gorgeous in person...lane furnishings had it in a leather in both a cream and a deep wine shade....you'd never know it was a recliner. http://www.lanefurniture.com/products/ProdInfoDet.asp?MasterNo=21604&LHF=

your welcome. Right when i read your post i was frantically checking the RH website. its not int heir newest catalogue..it was in the early spring one (pages 40-41). I really like the look and think that people usually feel more comfortable sitting in chairs as oppossed to a sofa. Can't wait to see the finished product. :)

I love the look and would do 4 chairs around a coffee table. Restoration usually has one room set up like this in their catalogue.

yes jeep..that's the look i want...an old world charm, i'm thinking a mix of both leather and fabric chairs...i'm having no luck finding inspirational pics. i like your idea of having a chair with ottoman infront of the firplace and can be turned to face the other area...it makes it multifuctional which i love while i can still have two looks going on.

Starbucks always seem to have a comfy chair no matter what your height or width. Maybe they could be your inspiration. Or maybe I'm just mellowed out on their coffee.

i would have to go through my zillion mags....it seems to me they were kind of placed in sort of a circle....like situated around a round coffee table...when i find it i will let you know

Hey cathie, did you have this success because you kissed the Blarney Stone? Or perhaps it's the reward of Irish Wiskey that convinced dh.

When I've seen it done, it is two and two with a coffee table between them. Or two and two and side tables in between each set of chairs.

Depending on your height - read this are you short like me - then you need to watch the style of the chair. If you like to read in a recliner then take into consideration where your neck hits. BTW - that Lane chair is good looking - never would have known it is a recliner.

Add - no, you're not nuts. I've thought about this two.

I think you can do it with 2 chairs side by side with a table in between facing 2 other chairs then off to the side on a angle facing the fireplace a chair with ottoman for relaxing by the fire and then if you have more people you could turn that chair to join the conversation area. Define the area with an area rug and large coffee table. It could be very sleek and comtemporary with the right choices of chairs and tables. I wouldn't have all the chairs the same but similar in style or fabric.

no you are not nuts at all.....im sure i had just seen this done in one of my magazines...they too did it with four chairs.......can you draw out a floor plan for people to play with or add a pic of the room? i think you will love it....good going :clapping: ...........dont forget, you will need space for a Cathie tree... :D
