Now that we're settling into our house, we realize that we're in for a lot of painting window trim. I also plan to paint the front door, garage door and the panels under our bay window.
However, I am not completely sure that I should paint the panels under the bay window. One family member feels that it would not look cohesive...I think it will.
I've found a color that I love and that adds contrast to the reddish tones of the brick. It is C2's Serendipity #199: http://www.c2color.com/assets/pdf/colorPalette/C2_92newcolors.pdf

Now that I see the mock up, I am not so sure of the color...LOL! I also see how too much contrast might make the house look "busy".
Back to the drawing board, I think...
ETA: The color on the monitor is more yellow than the actual chip I have...The actual chip is more of a green tone. Seeing the mock up makes me think I need to go lighter anyway...So, again, thanks!
I'm sure your neighbours are breathing a sigh of relief for your change of heart on the green colour :D I could see that colour on the front door perhaps but that's it. I would also prefer you not paint your window trims and I do prefer the lowered bay window. But paint it to match the siding.
Hi patty--Is your siding gray or white? Hard to tell by the pic. Are your windows made of wood or vinyl? I would extend the area in front of the bay window with flagstone. It would give you more room to place a bench or a couple of chairs and a small table. You have a lovely home and it does not need a lot of changing--just accessorize. (maybe larger light fixtures?) I would paint the garage door maybe to blend with the brick, as you said. I tried this---
Well, busy look or not, I've started the transformation. I bought primer and paint today and I've painted the front door. I went with the New Leaf color that I had matched at Canadian Tire. It's a little more green than the tan I wanted, but it contrasts well with the brick.
I did finally see a house where the garage was painted the same color as the brick to blend in, and it did look really good. If we are completely unhappy with how this project looks, we can use the other house as a reference and eventually repaint.
I'll be sure to post pictures once I have finished the project.
The colors showing on my monitor used in all the mockups are quite dark and so it seems that there is a stark contrast, making the eye go crazy. But the color we have chosen compliments both the siding and the brick.
Big thank you for the help, comments and mock ups. It really helps us novice and nervous folk! :D
I totally agree with Dianne. Already you have several different colours going....shingles, brick, siding, doors, etc. Adding another colour or two will really "busy" things up more and, IMO, not in a very attractive way.
As Dianne also suggested, add some accessories...like urns, flowers, coach lights, larger, more interesting, house numbers, a wrought iron bench, etc., for drama and curb appeal.
If it were me I would leave the window panels & the upper window trim the same as the siding. I find it looks too busy in the mock-ups in another colour. Do paint the garage door. Also, paint the front door a colour that will add some punch. How about some nice big urns/panters filled with lots of flowering annuals near the front door area. I don't always love this, but I've seen houses where they hang some kind of wall decor on the brick wall near the front door eg. a large sunburst, grapevine wreath, large hanging plant.
Thanks so much, Bigmama!
The mock ups really help me to see my direction. Currently, I find our house front very dull. I want to add contrast and interest but I don't want it to be overly busy...I think my original love for Serendipity is changing and I may go with C2's New Leaf. Still in the green family but lighter.
Again, thanks! :)
and some more...
here are some Stone harbour ,cabot trail ranchwood
Wow, DBD! Thank You!!!

Is this the colour?
I tried it on your trim and garage. To my eye you need another shade of it, darker or lighter, to help pull out the detail the house. So two new colours vs just one.
Also I did a mock up that brings your bay window to the ground. The've suggested this on a lot of shows to help ground the window and take away what might be a 'floating' appearance. You could also put in a big flower box or something to fill the space.
Leave the panel under the bay as it matches the siding.
Paint the garage door the tones of the brick.
Paint the front door the deepest tone in the brick. Looks to me on my monitor that there is a charcoal in the brick. If in fact it is then paint the front door charcoal.
