I have a drip pan under my washing machine just in case, although I doubt there would ever be a leak I think it's just better to be safe than sorry with that kind of thing and it was very inexpensive. The little amount of water that is in a front loader may or may not overflow the drip pan.
I don't typically hang dry anything but I remember when I lived in an apartment I used to have a fold up drying rack that I would set up in the bathtub just so it was out of the way.
What a great space. A sewing machine and serger always set up is awesome!!!
My laundry room is 12x12 and in the lower level .There is lots going on in it......sewing machine, serger, TV, telephone, pantry's for food items, christmas linens, household tools ,cabinets for storing odds & ends...another pantry for extra bedclothes .....I have 2 metal adjustable bars for hanging clothes that are hang to dry only & for hanging clothes after ironing ...another small bar with clip type hangers for hanging underwear to dry .....my ironing board is always up...I can be watching TV sewing ,doing laundry, ironing,or talking on the phone..It is not real fancy but is very functional and just off the rec room away from the main living area...I strongly recommend a large laundry room if you are a sewer or like to watch TV while ironing. I have a new cabinet type laundry sink waiting to be installed.
Jeep,
What size sink do you have in your laundry room, is it 10" deep like a laundry tub or smaller?
I have my side by side and I would like to have a shelf above it but I can't reach over the machines so I didn't put one. I have a cabinet with counter top and sink that is nice a deep on the other wall. It is big enough for me and I keep my ironing board right there as well and also brooms and mops so all those sort of things are right handy.
Mine is just side by side on the main floor in the main hallway. It's very conveniently located so laundry can be done anytime. Previously when the set was in the basement laundry would only get done on weekends, not sure why but that's how it worked out. The set is fairly quiet so it doesn't interfer with watching TV or anything and unloading them during the commerical breaks is handy. There is a broom closet kind of thing beside the laundry area where the ironing board is kept and the detergents and iron, etc. are in the cupboards up above the appliances.
Obviously it's the bare bones basics in terms of space but that's ok and suits my needs to be honest. In a perfect world I'd have a luxurious marble countertopped laundry room with loads of space to keep the ironing board set up all the time and a small area to keep the sewing machine at the ready too, but until that day comes, I seem to be making do just fine. I don't have time to hang out in a gorgeous laundry room to be honest so even if I did have one at present, it would be a waste of space for me.
One thing I am really appreciating is the countertop above the front loading appliances, very useful and I could probably do a light ironing on it too if needed.
