I don't think it ever went out of style, actually. My kitchens in my first two houses were yellow and I'm painting this one yellow too, when I finally get around to it. We had blue accents in house #1 and always got lots of compliments on the kitchen.
My son had a yellow room when he was a preschooler and I don't remember him being hyper in the room at all. I do remember that he always wanted to be in his room, playing or whatever. That's in contrast to his current blue room, which he is rarely in (but hey, that means his room is usually tidy:-).
.......my grandmother's house in Greece was a soft yellow stucco and I always associate it with her and happy times. I don't think yellow ever went out of style. People used to paint their kitchens yellow but now it's been graduated to more formal rooms.
I painted a yellowy/beige from Para called Deborah....... It looks great with my blues and burgandy accents. I love it!
Your LR sounds lovely - do you have pic by any chance? I have blue upholstery in my LR and will be eventually looking to make it work with some kind of honey/warm tan, I think, but options are still open...
We painted our living room (I use the 'we' loosely since I did it) last year in BM Honey Harbour and it works well in our north-facing cozy (read 'small') room. My Dh made the built-in bookshelves along one wall that are painted in BM Cloud White to match the trim. We have gold furniture with some blue accents (throw pillows, in the drapes, round drop tablecloth) and several framed albumen photos which compliment the yellow - or possibly the yellow compliments the photos, anyway you get my point. We get lots of compliments on what a cozy room it is.
my kitchen & family room - BM Hawthorne Yellow - thank you Buttercup! When the sun is streaming in the windows, the room seems so cheerful.
just not too bright. We had a darkish yellow in our old playroom and it gave me a headache if I was in there too long.
Heather :)
My family room is painted BM - Straw, I love it. The colour makes the room warm (especially good because it's in the basement!)
The living room at my last house was BM - HC 6 or 4 (the lighter of the two). It was a soft buttery yellow, really easy to live with and people always complimented on the colour.
We're currently working on our home office - we used Behrs Palse Sunshine which worked out quite well - I'll post pics when it's completed, but I think yellow's still in - just depends on the shade!
Our entire house (which admittedly is not a large house) is in yellow, except for our bedroom. We have 1 shade in the kitchen / TV room, and another in the living room, dining room and up the stairs. Spare bedroom is also yellow. Bedroom is a periwinkle blue. So yes, I love yellow!
After having pale yellow walls at my last home, I try to stay away from this colour because it washes me right out!
In fact, I used to blend into the walls so well that when people would come over they never thought I was home!
My favourite would be a banana type yellow but I couldn't ever see myself painting a wall in it...I would keep it in accessories only....prints, pillows, fruit bowl....
I don't like sunshine yellow but I lvoe a soft yellow like Hawthorne yellow by BM
My living room and sunroom are painted yellow. Yellow just cheers me up for some reason.
oops
I have always like yellow. Not all tints and shades but this one I love. It looks a little lighter depending on the light.
I also like a yellow accent in a room with flowers or in a pattern. Very spring-like.
never used to, but like it now...prefer buttery yellows, or deeper muted like Bm's sesame seed or dijon..but not lemon yellow...
there was an interesting article on this...scientists have studied the effect of yellow...it has been found to be a memory stimulator, also raises blood pressure & pulse rate but not to the degree that red does...
overall I find it a happy colour & still haven't tired of it in my kitchen:)
BUT, it has to be the right yellow. Pale, but not too sweet or babyish, more of a yellowy beige, if that makes any sense! And definitely not an in-your-face yellow.
