Photo Gallery: Lake Jane Favourites
Marie-Eve Best of Montreal has been covering fashion, dining and decorating tips and trends on her Lake Jane blog since 2008. In this photo gallery, she highlights the gorgeous living room, kitchen, dining room and bathroom designs that have inspired her most.
"I'm a long-time follower of Victoria Smith’s blog, sfgirlbybay," says Marie-Eve. "Her living room showcases her keen eye and playful style. Every object has its place and purpose. It
“Davina Palik and Daniel Kudish’s loft is the epitome of urban chic,” says Marie-Eve. “They hand-picked every last detail to make sure the space was proportioned, streamlined and sleek. In daylight, the room is quite serene, but at night, it transforms into what feels like a cool lounge.”
“I first saw J. Crew Creative Director Jenna Lyons’ home in the November 2008 issue of Domino magazine, and I still revert back to it for decorating inspiration,” Marie-Eve says. “Her kitchen is my idea of perfection. I love those dark cabinets!”
“I was speechless when I first saw this bathroom,” says Marie-Eve. “The built-in with the library ladder is beyond fantastic. I dream of having one of my very own one day!”
“Jay Shapiro and Claire Bigbie’s Victorian Duplex is just plain cool,” declares Marie-Eve. “I love the wooden beams and oversized island. It’s the kind of kitchen that friends would love to hang out in.”
“H&H design editor Stacey Begg’s loft is one of my all-time favourites!” says Marie-Eve. “I love the contrast between the rustic blanket and chandelier and the industrial detailing that characterizes most loft spaces.”

“Christina Brown perfectly balances her very contemporary pieces with the home’s original features,” notes Marie-Eve. “Every item in this room tells a story: The chairs were salvaged from an old school library in Port Hope, and the original wood wall is over 125 years old!”
“H&H style editor Sarah Hartill’s laundry room/craft corner is but a dream for me, an apartment dweller,” says Marie-Eve. “I fantasize about making greeting cards while waiting for the rinse cycle to finish…I also dream of being this organized!”
“I love the clean lines in this room,” Marie-Eve says. “The soft colour palette makes all of the interesting accessories stand out. Speaking of the accessories, how gorgeous is that antique mirror!?”
“I just adore the spa-feel of this room,” says Marie-Eve. “Every element exudes serenity; from the encased glass shower and long wooden surfaces to the dark tile and bamboo covered windows. Practical, modern and calm – qualities that my current bathroom lacks.”
