A mix of fabrics and seating styles works wonders in realtor Emily Norris’s contemporary living room. Emily recovered the wicker chaise, a garage sale find, with fun zigzag fabric.
“Nothing is hands-off in here,” says designer and homeowner Tara Fingold. The chairs are covered in easy-clean vinyl and the chaise in a heavy-duty chenille.
Coffered ceilings provide architectural interest in this living room by designer Sophie Burke. The banded sisal rug anchors the seating area in the spacious room. Burke chose whitewashed oak floors for an airy look.
In the winter, TV host Marilyn Denis removes these slipcovers to reveal cosy grey upholstery. Designer Lisa Rogers brought in the boldly striped rug to shake up the traditional space, and the two gold prints above the sofa add an exotic note.
In this living room, the panel behind the artwork slides aside to reveal a flatscreen TV. A plush, Asian-inspired silk and wool floral rug adds a feminine flourish and ties together the bold blue and coral colour scheme.
Unadorned oak floors, traditional furnishings and walls with recessed panels speak to interior designer Alyson Wood’s love of classic interiors.
Drue, a terrier mix, curls up in the living room, where an antique hand-carved fireplace mantel from Lyon, France, and a painting by René Richard take pride of place.
Designer and popular blogger Emma Reddington chose a pale colour for the walls in her south-facing living room “to make it feel even brighter and to offset the artwork.” The dramatic mirror, found at a neighbourhood thrift store, plays up the high ceilings, while the 20-arm black chandelier invokes a sense of drama.
