“An entry is the perfect place to make a statement with bold color!” says Fairley. Black, white and red furniture is anchored by a neutral wood floor. Dramatic red walls and a zebra-print rug add an unexpected element. “The mirrored wall panels add interest and glamor to this fun space,” adds Fairley.
“An entryway is truly the first-impression space of your home — make it count!” says Fairley. Botanical wallpaper, curved furniture and pale pink accents create a space that’s girly but not over-the-top.
A spacious, open-concept layout and cosy eating nook make this room family-friendly. Serene seaside-inspired colours like the pistachio cabinets add a sense of calm to even the most hectic mornings. Fun accents such as the silver pendant lights add visual interest. “The finish of the island is a great way to add interest to the whole space,” adds Fairley.
Fairley recommends displaying personal collections as a way to infuse your home with your personality. “It allows you to enjoy your treasures every day,” she says. A myriad of blue, green and orange-hued tableware enliven this cream kitchen.
A gold sunburst mirror and warm cream walls offset the cool green and blue tones of this eclectic living room. Kelly Green lamps and blue books echo the colour of the fabrics in the room. New accessories like these are the easiest way to breathe new life into a design you’ve lived with for a while, says Fairley.
A classic cream and black colour palette is kicked up a notch with graphic wallpaper, a statement mirror and a glossy black fireplace. Gold, peach and jade accents and a marble bust lend the room a feminine, Hollywood Regency feel. “Details give this room its glamor!” says Fairley. “And a completely unexpected splash of green makes the room more exciting.”
Creating an authentic space that reflects a homeowner’s personality is key, says Fairley. Here in her own living room, she displayed part of her extensive collection of design books. Orange and navy makes the space cosy yet vibrant — the perfect spot for journaling, perusing her books, and writing her blog.
By playing with different finishes and textures and wrapping the living room in soothing pale blue tones, Fairley was able to make a monochromatic space dynamic, says the designer. “Your use of color doesn’t always have to be bright to make an impression!” she says.
“When a design is grounded by neutrals, just a few key pops of color can make the space read colorful and vibrant!” advises Fairley. This living room is a perfect example: aqua and tangerine pillows and yellow tulips add punch to a soft cream space.
Eco-friendly is anything but drab in this colourful space! Fairley repurposed vintage finds to keep with the homeowner’s green vision for this room. Antique pieces can be easily revived with paint and new upholstery.
Vibrant complementary colours like green and peach are paired with crisp white for a fresh, clean look in this bedroom. Yellow footstools offer an unexpected hit of colour. “The palette in this room reminds us that — like with these stools — a pop of an accent color can make a room much more dynamic!” says Fairley.
This modern bedroom is given a kid-friendly feel with lilac, pink and graphic floral wallpaper and blinds. “A very contemporary take on a child’s room works when you introduce color and fun pattern to keep it lively,” says Fairley.
