Ginger Cookies Recipe

A simple yet flavourful cookie with a sugar coating.

3/4 cup vegetable shortening 
1 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp ground ginger
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
Extra sugar for topping


Step 1: Preheat oven to 350ºF. 

Step 2: Cream shortening with sugar. 

Step 3: Stir in egg, then molasses. 

Step 4: In a separate bowl, sift together all remaining dry ingredients. 

Step 5: Stir into molasses mixture to form a stiff dough. 

Step 6: Roll each ball in sugar to coat.

Step 7: Place 1" apart on parchment lined baking sheet. 

Step 8: Bake about 12 minutes.
