Heart Cookies Recipe

H&H staffer Stephanie Lloyd shares her sister Kate's favourite holiday cookie recipe. These would also make a perfect homemade Valentine's Day gift.

3 cups flour, plus 2 tbsp flour
2/3 cup white sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp baking powder
1-1/4 cup sweet, unsalted butter
Strawberry jam
Icing sugar for dusting


Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F.

Step 2: Mix all ingredients together in a bowl, except for the jam, until well mixed.

Step 3: Roll out onto floured surface and cut into hearts using a cookie cutter.

Step 4: Bake for approximately 10 minutes.

Step 5: Let cookies cool and spread half the hearts with good quality strawberry jam.

Step 6: Punch a small hole (penny-size) in the middle of the remaining hearts (this is to allow the jam to show through). Place hearts with hole on top of jam-spread hearts. Dust with icing sugar.
