You can’t help but smile when you look at this Toronto kitchen. A bubbly cast-resin chandelier exudes whimsy, while neon artwork in the background adds some zest. “And I love the color of the backsplash tile — it’s the perfect gold,” says homeowner and Snob founder Denise Zidel. “I needed that extra shine in the kitchen.”

In this century-old Connecticut home , Tommy Smythe and Lindsay Mens Craig of Sarah Richardson Design created a quaint gathering place with a distinct maritime feel. “We were mindful of not over-renovating the house,” says Tommy — hence, the original architectural beauty still shines through.

H&H ‘s Ones to Watch designers Carey Mudford and Erin Coe know how to turn a kitchen into a show-stopping design moment. “We framed the window including the jamb in a slab material,” says Carey of the heavily-veined marble backsplash backlit with LEDs. Plus, a black vent hood creates a spot for the eye to rest.
