Nostalgia can play a big part in how you decorate and what you love to live with. If you've ever lived with avocado green appliances for example (we had a stove, I vaguely recall), you may not love that colour now. In the '80s, my mother redecorated our living room with a sea of pink and grey velvet — on trend at the time, but now that colour combo makes me itchy. Funny how all this plays into what you are attracted to as an adult.

We've all seen panelling for a while now — it's hot — and it's an easy way to add architectural interest to a room. But it's the off-set panelling that always reminds me of my childhood — too many hours watching The Brady Bunch, I suppose.

An easy way to incorporate this look is with furniture.

The Alba console from Pinch in London is such a nice example. I love it in white, and that wooden interior is hot.

The Marlow armoire, also from Pinch, builds on classic fielded panels. Notice the subtle locking hardware, and inside detailing — so nice.

See more rooms with panelling, too!
