A flavour-packed winter chili with lean pork.
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 lb. lean ground Ontario pork
1 large onion, chopped
2 tbsp minced garlic
1 cup chopped green peppers
1 28 oz. can diced tomatoes
2 tbsp chili powder
1 tbsp ground cumin
1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 19 oz. can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
Step 1: Heat oil in a saucepan.
Step 2: Add pork, onion, garlic, and peppers. Cook over medium heat until pork is no longer pink, about five minutes. Stir frequently to break up pork.
Step 3: Add tomatoes and seasonings. Simmer gently, uncovered, for about one hour. Add a little water if mixture becomes too dry.
Step 4: Add beans and simmer for another 10 minutes.
Step 5: Serve with a dollop of sour cream or sprinkle with grated Monterey Jack cheese and broil just before serving.
