A New Book About Eliel & Eero Saarinen

Eero Saarinen’s contributions to furniture design — the Tulip chair and stool, Saarinen table and Womb chair — are so iconic, it’s easy to forget about his architectural work, not to mention that of his father, Eliel. But Saarinen Houses (2014 Princeton Architectural Press), which features intimate portraits of private residences by Saarinen elder and junior, is an excellent reminder. It traces the duo’s stylistic evolution, starting with Eliel’s early work in Finland to Eero’s work on the iconic Miller House (above).
