Ask A Designer: Breakfast Area Settee

Q. In my breakfast area, I have a 60″-diameter table with a 24″-wide leaf insert. I love banquettes but want to avoid having one built in. Would either a settee or sofa work? I’d like something that is 21″ high and long enough to work when the table is extended.

A. Yes, you can certainly pair your table with a settee or sofa! There are many great models on the market right now, so shop around to find one that fits your style. I like Lee Industries‘ 3915-02 settee. It has a 45″-high back with a seat height of 20″, which suits your needs. Its tall legs give it a sophisticated look.

The best arrangement would be to place the settee against the wall and put your table in front of it, as in our inspiration photo above. This way, your chairs can be tucked right under the table and out of the way when not in use. To fit as many people as possible, keep your leaf in at all times.
