This past weekend, I attended the Canadian Design Bloggers Meetup. More than 60 talented ladies — yes, mostly ladies — pried themselves away from their keyboards for a night of networking, socializing, and talk of all things design. Their day jobs are quite varied — some in interior design, some in PR, some in finance, but all have the same passion and panache for beautiful interiors.
The event was held at Toronto’s Hôtel le Germain. The space was the perfect venue to mill around in different groups, sip wine and listen to talks from the organizers, sponsors and bloggers.
Daniella Zitella of Dress, Design & Decor (above, second from left), Jennifer Flores of Rambling Renovators (pictured below), and Vitania Liscio of Verdigris Vie (above, second from right) did a great job of promoting and hosting the successful event. Thanks, again! Also pictured: Linda from Simply Seductive (far left) and Connie from Sogni e Sorrisi (far right).
There were too many fabulous bloggers in attendance to name here, but here are some of talented individuals I had the pleasure of meeting. From left, Kelly from Jax Does Design, Tara from The Cinnamon Post, Vanessa from Decor Happy, Emma from The Marion House Book, Jennifer from Rambling Renovators, and Lindsay from Aubrey + Lindsay. (You’ll find a complete list of attendees on the event site.)
I may or may not have blurted out to Jen Selk how much I miss MTV’s The After Show — she always impressed with her insightful banter — and she’s just as charming in person. Here she is (left) with Vanessa from Decor Happy, Pamela from Cherish Toronto, and Sharalee from Escapade.
Toronto’s Coriander Girl created the beautiful centerpieces, while Hôtel le Germain treated us to gourmet hors d’oeuvres — they were delish.
Delta Faucet, one of the event sponsors, raffled off great prizes like a mod new faucet and showerhead, and this season’s hot new cookbooks were also up for grabs. (Houseandhome.com already has five new recipes from Gordon Ramsay’s World Kitchen — give them a try!)
It was so great to finally put faces to blogs. I keep up with these bloggers regularly for Houseandhome.com’s Design Sites We Like page, so I was finally able to pick their brains about how they started up, what inspires them, and their plans for the future. My favourite quote is from Rambling Renovators’ Jennifer, and I think she really addresses what piques people’s interests about blogs:
“To me, blogging is about community and making connections with people you otherwise would never have crossed paths with. Most bloggers don’t blog about their ‘regular’ day jobs; they blog about their passions, what drives them, what they would choose to do and pursue for the rest of their days if they could.”
And that’s why I love blogs. Which blogs do you read, and why? Comment below!
Thanks again Daniella, Jennifer and Vitania — such a great night!
