DIY: Faux-Clay Half Wall

Bring color and character to plain white walls with this simple paint project.

You’ll need: two paint colors in a matte finish (we used Red Earth (64) by Farrow & Ball for the wainscotting and Nancy’s Blushes (278) by Farrow & Ball for the accent stripe) painter’s tape, drop cloth, brushes, rollers.

  1. Spread drop cloth across entire area to protect floors.
  2. Measure desired height of half wall you want to create (we chose to go 3′ high), marking at intervals with pencil.
  3. Repeat above step for chair rail stripe, making it 2″ to 3″ high.
  4. Using painter’s tape, define half wall and paint below, including baseboard. When dry, remove tape and create new lines for chair rail. Paint in accent color. When dry, remove tape.
