Festive Style Update
Well guys, it’s almost here ? Christmas is just around the corner! As if scrambling to buy gifts and party snacks and turkeys wasn’t enough, those of us with a keen decorating sense busy ourselves with getting our homes ready for the holidays, too!
I don’t just mean a tree or menorah ? I mean holiday guest ready. You know what I’m talking about ? the in-laws or work colleagues are on their way and suddenly you notice your home’s every flaw? Those camping chairs just won’t cut it for a festive fête with company, will they?!
If you’re looking to spruce your place up in time for the holidays with all those guests, might I suggest heading over to your local HomeSense? It can feel like a bit of a dig, but that’s why you’ve got me to point out all of the goodies. Here are some treasures I found at HomeSense to help with this party season’s demands.
First, I found this totally fun entertainment unit. I love it for its bold colour and chinoisery styling. The brass hardware is spot-on and it has the perfect shelf to hold all of your components, plus storage beneath. This is just what Santa ordered to hide all of your messy TV cables before the guests arrive!
Next up, some sophisticated artwork! I’ll be honest, I’m not usually a fan of the mass-produced oil paintings I see out there, but these two prints are perfectly charming! With their rich cinnamon and white colouring, they’re interesting but not over the top. They are a steal at around $50 each including the handsome frame. Group these together over a sofa or fireplace to create visual interest and balance weightier pieces.
If you’ve got overnight guests on the way, you might want to spruce up that spare room and add some storage. That way, guests can put their items away in a dresser and not search through bags during their stay. This HomeSense dresser is a stunner with its hammered metal finish and warm patina. It has understated crystal knobs, but I’m tempted to try something in a worn metal finish to up the ante even more! Styled with some interesting pottery and a modest mirror above, your holiday guests will think you’ve shopped the globe instead of your local big box plaza.
Seating is always key for the holidays. At my parents house, there’s an open-door policy and it seems like we can always squeeze in one more! But for that you need dining chairs, and HomeSense has you covered. These classic Parson-esque chairs are upholstered in luxurious velvet. They could easily mix in with a traditional dining set or warm up a sleek, modern space. And your guests’ bums will thank you. Don’t they look comfy?
Picture it: You’re sitting in the living room next to a roaring fire with family and friends. You’ve got hot cocoa and Christmas cookies ready to share, but wait ? there’s no surface to place them on! You need a generous coffee table for treats and feet. Look at this beauty I found at HomeSense! I’m NOT kidding you; the exact same one is at one of Toronto’s most lovely, high-end furniture emporiums right now. This black beauty would fit in with any style and I love its pretty handles and decorative feet. That’s not glass on the top ? it’s just a plastic sheet HomeSense uses to protect the surface of the table. Phew!
Okay, the principal bedroom may not be a place your holiday guests will frequent, but I had to include this incredible screen. It was a real bargain, and I can just see it painted (or left as is) and used as a dramatic and unexpected headboard. With its four panels and scrolled top, it would make a great finishing touch to a ho-hum room. Or think of it as an early present for yourself! Tis the season of giving….
Trust me when I say that was not all this store had to offer. They also have so many great home accessories right now ? lighting and colourful dishes to set that holiday table. If you can squeeze in a little home facelift this holiday season, I’m sure it will thank you with a warm and cosy embrace.
