Five Great Task Lamps

I’ve always loved the simplicity and sculptural quality of task lamps. They’re the perfect modern, industrial hit for nearly any space. From a bedside table to a desk, a reading lamp in the living room or a punchy hit of colour in a hallway, the task lamp reigns supreme in my books!
Now I know there are a number of different types, but the one I covet most is by Jieldé (above), a French company that has been making gorgeous lighting since 1950.
Stacey Smithers and I used a great bronze floor lamp by Jieldé (available through Hollace Cluny) in the September 2010 issue of H&H. I love how the lamp looks next to the vintage desk — simple and understated. And who says you have to use a table lamp at desk? Try pulling up a floor lamp for a more contemporary look.
There are several options available if you’re in the market for a task lamp. I suggest something with the same classic lines as the Jieldé. The Pharmacy Antiqued Bronze Desk Lamp (above) by Crate & Barrel is a good option. I love the worn bronze finish.
If you’re looking for something a bit more contemporary, try the Crane Grellow Desk Lamp by CB2. Now available in Canada!
The Industrial Task Table Lamp from West Elm is another gorgeous and affordable option — only $59! I love the polished nickel accents with the glossy black finish. I’m actually thinking of these for bedside tables in my own place!
Here’s a floor version from Ikea. It doesn’t have the same jointed arm, but will still provide the same overall look. I like the white — and the price, $40!
