Hallway Hooks

I love a good bargain. I also love the thrill of a flea-market hunt — rummaging for great pieces, some chosen because they’re useful, some because they’re just so darn pretty. With spring in the air, I can’t wait to get out of the city and start looking for treasures.

Recently, I had the same feeling that I get when I find a treasure in an old box in a barn — yet I was in Ikea. I always frequent the same Ikea, trip to trip, and I know the store well. My store renovated, though, and moved bits around. And so I stumbled upon these Bjarnum hooks, perfect for spring organizing.

Call me crazy, but this hook is perfect. They only come in nickel plating, but they’re cheap ($13 for 3!) and well designed. I’ve since noticed a few similar products on the market that are much more expensive yet not as well made.

The glory in this hook is that it folds flat when you don’t need it and folds out when you do — perfect for cramped hallways. The hook part is also deep enough to be really useful, a good 2-1/4” or so. I couldn’t resist spray-painting a few white for my own front hall, which has white walls. These little guys will be perfect for overflow kids’ stuff.

Sometimes it’s the simple things that we treasure most, isn’t it?
