High Line Designer Turns Eye To San Francisco

San Francisco will soon have a High Line of its very own. Well, sort of: James Corner, the architect behind New York’s famous elevated walkway (above) and several other examples of the world’s best parks, is designing a 13-acre esplanade in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The as-yet-unnamed project, which is scheduled for completion in 2018, will sit on land once occupied by Doyle Drive, an elevated highway built in the 1930s. (Doyle Drive is in the process of being replaced by a tunnelled parkway.)
