Landmark Yorkville Apartment

The Toronto International Film Festival just ended its 36th run here in the city. If the buzz over this year’s Oscar bait, red-carpet fashions and around-town celebrity sightings has you yearning for a downtown pied-à-terre (and you have some cash to spare), look no further than this luxurious contemporary apartment. Though it was built in the 1960s, a recent restoration added modern amenities while keeping the home’s urbane flair. Let’s step inside.

Talk about a dramatic entrance. The dazzling travertine and bronze staircase (inspired by a Philip Johnson design) dominates the foyer, but the decorative pool and skylights keep the stone-and-metal space from feeling too cold. The stairs lead to up to four bedrooms, including a principal suite with private dressing and sitting rooms.

Clean lines and white walls set off the parquet flooring in the formal dining room. Spare, chrome-edged windows and doors let natural light pour in — and lead to 5,000 square feet of outdoor terrace space.

Lighter wood flooring gives the kitchen and family room a more relaxed feel, while the fireplace surround brings in another dose of that gorgeous warm stone.

Enjoy a panoramic view of the Toronto skyline while soaking (or just brushing your teeth) in one of the 4.5 bathrooms. Don’t worry, the bathtub is set back far enough to avoid the transparency issues of New York’s Standard Hotel.
