Main Floor Makeover: Finished Kitchen
After a long summer of freshening up our main floor and planning a wedding, things are finally settled. (Click here if you missed my blog post about the inspiration for our kitchen makeover and here for our living room before shots. Plus, check back next week for my post about the completed dining room and living room.)
As I mentioned before, we had our kitchen cupboards professionally sprayed out, but we had to sand and paint the sides ourselves. That involved emptying out the contents of the cupboards, so we lived like this for a couple of weeks:
Want to pour yourself a glass of wine after work? Head to the dining room! Need some morning coffee? Head to the stairs and choose your mug! Those who know me well know I was ripping my hair out for these few weeks.
Here are some photos of our progress this summer:
True North Spraying Services sprayed the cupboard doors in Benjamin Moore’s Cloud White (OC-130), and we painted the sides, walls and trim the same colour. The appliances and backsplash had been updated the summer before, which allowed us to focus on cosmetic (and affordable!) changes like paint and stools.
Painting the sides of the cupboards was more time-consuming than we expected, since you have to sand thoroughly between each coat of paint. (It took four coats!)
The kitchen is much brighter now, and the backsplash tiles really pop.
This blah beige wall needed some drama.
Here’s our grey accent wall, painted in Benjamin Moore’s Overcoat (OC-544). We also carried this bold hue into the living room.
These brown leather stools suit a bachelor pad perfectly, but they were actually ripping at the seams (yay!) and needed to be replaced.
Nick actually had to sand and paint the inside of this cupboard. He’s a really handy husband.
Ikea’s Glenn counter stools in a glossy white finish blend in seamlessly with the white cabinets. No more leather! We’re thinking about updating the flooring down the road, but for now, these ceramic tiles do a great job of hiding dust and dirt.
