Modern Ranch House
Welcome to the first in a new series of blog posts featuring hot properties for sale in Canada and around the world. Each week, we’ll offer a voyeuristic peek into an envy-inducing condo, house or vacation home on the market. We of course don’t endorse any specific realtor, home or listing — you’ll still need to arrange a house inspection! — but we can guarantee that each one has incredible style.
House-hunting fans of Canadian design will leap at the bold-faced names behind this 5-bedroom, $4.5M ranch house in Caledon, Ontario. Nestled delicately into a hilly landscape, the home was designed by Governor General Award-winning architect Siamak Hariri, and the interiors were overseen by Kate Zeidler (notable for restoring Toronto’s Gladstone Hotel). The feel of the place is somewhat country (with a woodsy palette of cedar, hemlock, Douglas fir and teak), somewhat country club (the 73.5-acre property has a pool, tennis court and horse stables), and all kinds of artsy (it has its own photo lab, pottery den and painting studio). Below are a few of the most drool-worthy photos from the property.
The spacious principal bedroom has a fireplace in soft, creamy Owen Sound ledge rock. The room is at the west end of the house, so I imagine sunsets are spectacular through the wall-to-wall windows.
The centre of the house is a massive open space, combining the living room, dining room and kitchen. The giant columns are Douglas fir and the stone floors are also made from Owen Sound ledge rock.
The property also has open meadows, woodlands, an organic apple orchard and a vegetable garden.
